Listening to the New Rock Station...

Recommended Posts

I don't know much about anything when it comes to music by some teenager sitting on a stool with an acoustic guitar, singing about heartbreak and detention; nor can I relate with pink shirts, black skinner jeans, and screaming instead of singing; and I don't know much about the teen angst ridden lyrics by millionaire grown ups in tattoos.

But what the fuck, man...How come when I tune into the New Rock/Alternative station, they play a song, I can sorta dig it for the first few seconds until the vocalist puts on that gay ass accent. You know, the one that is associated with punk music (especially that Green Day type). It doesn't work when the instrumental has depth and sounds pretty good.

Where does this accent come from? And why do people keep using it? It's so gay! I try not to use the word 'gay' as a negative adjective when describing intangibles, but that's the only word I can come up with.
