LIVERWURST*
James Nachtwey. In my opinion the best photojournalist there is. I saw a documentry on him a while ago, shit was intense and I was left awestruck. This dude has covered so many wars and been to so many developing countries in a period of 20 years, that it's not even funny. Rwanda, 1994 - Survivor of Hutu death camp: Zaire, 1994 - Hutu refugees were struck by cholera and buried in mass graves: Sudan, 1993 - Famine victim in a feeding center: Somalia, 1992 - Child starved by famine, a man-made weapon of mass extermination: Indonesia, 1998 - A beggar washed his children in a polluted canal: Kosovo, 1999 - Tearing a poster of Milosevic. Kosovo, 1999 - Ruins of Djacovica, destroyed by Serbs. Romania, 1990 - An orphanage for " incurables": Chechnya, 1996 - Ruins of central Grozny: West Bank, 2000 - Palestinians fighting the Israeli army. http://www.jamesnachtwey.com/ this moved me...maybe we need a thread like this... PUMPKIN ESCOBAR
DAMN. Those pictures are fucking insane. I had a hard time getting through them. I remember reading a rolling stone article or two about how bad some parts of Africa are, that and one about the diamond wars in one of those scholastic magazines.....shit always leaves me shook. Soup BDC
War photographers are a different breed. James Nachtwey's been shot in the line while photographing the craziest shit on the planet. His photographs are too good. Bosnia, 1993 - Ethnic cleansing in Mostar. Croat militiaman fires on his Moslem neighbors. Kosovo, 1999 - Imprint of a man killed by Serbs. East Germany, 1990 - Pollution from a coke factory. 9/11 9/11 Somalia, 1992 - Lifting a dead son to carry him to a mass grave during the famine. Soup BDC
Coke factory. Cocain? Coca Cola? ...what would they be burning if it was cola or cocain, and why would there be a factory for either of those products in germany? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coking
Soup BDC
^ what he asked. also, great thread idea. I now have a reason to look in Crossfire. That's a little bothersome. You want pictures, but not the stories that go with them? Do you just like looking at pain? That's kinda emo.

LoveKRS
the famine victim crawling along is horrible It really really is... That guy has/had family, friends, feelings, hopes and preferences just like everybody else but has been reduced to that. A fraction of what the US spends on 'defence' could stop this shit, the money spent around the world in Starbucks every year could probably stop this shit, and yet people still starve to death in large numbers in famines. There are famines going on right now and yet I don't see it on the news (in the UK). And all the western powers do anyway is send bags of grain... too little too late. That's the way the west operates - attack the symptons, not the cause e.g. The War on Terror, The War on Drugs etc. We could stop it if we really wanted too...
