for example, big brother and strength was a mature audience magazine,

but both of those have folded.

thankfully dave carnie and clyde singleton are working at the skateboard mag. those two made big brother worth reading. it's a shame clyde's not as flat out racist as he was in bb though

[/b]

I have some of the first issues of Big Brother stashed away.....before the mag tanked they had gotten pretty tame

But issue 1-20 were awesome...packed with violence, nudity, awesome inteviews and lengthly tour diaries complete with lavish photography to illustrate high points. Some of the skate companies like Shorty's had ads in the magazine that were essentially pornography but others got really creative and funny.

I wouldn't part with'em for anything just about.

issues 1-20 were the best magazine to ever be written at that time, and now. each issue wasa different size and had amazing stories. its funny that once porn wheelchair god l. flynt took over the magazine got "cleaned" up. the mag started sliding down a bit before that though.

the articles that dude earl would have were hilarious, the constant fucking around with kosick, just good stuff.

Just because someone does graffiti, all of their artwork is not neccesarily graffiti. Lots of writers make their living as artists. And, while I have to agree that the space monkeys are becoming a bit played at this point, Dalek did put in his share of illegal work work for a few years. His stuff now is not graffiti, it's art by a guy who used to do graffiti.

This is especially true in the skateboard industry... Twist, Grime, Giant, and lots of other respected writers have done graphics and art direction for skateboard companies, and many of them reached those positions by being artists who skateboard rather than artists who do graffiti.

Long story short, I'm with seeking.

A few others that I'm getting fatigued with are Obey and Kaws.

getting bored with them? kaws has sucked since the late 90's and sheppard fairy hasn't 'broken new ground' in a decade. atleast shep has always, or atleast until very recently, continuted to do illegal stuff though. it might just be wheat pasting, but regardless, he's still out doing it. he did his thing, busted his ass, and changed the design world. i can't be mad at that. i cant get excited about it, but i cant hate. kaws though...kaws i can hate.

Ugh...the term "sellout" is overused to the point of the term being completely unregisterable in my conciousness.

My gripe about the guy is him being such a one-trick-pony. There really hasn;t been much of an evolution of his stuff over the past few years...just different variations on a tried and true theme.

boring

Whatever the jealous, insignificant masses have to say, dude is making a living off of his art-- rather than working a shitty nine to five, then going home and painting some shit that no one else will ever see.

And for the record, dude might seem like a one trick pony, but he does a lot of commercial shit that you've all seen and would never guess that he was behind. I could live without seeing another space monkey myself, but that's what the kids want. De La Soul hates singing Me Myself and I now. I hate getting up at six to go do my thing, but we all do what we gotta to live.
