Some1
Re: motorbikes! haha dude here you have to have insurance or they pull your registration. Then if you are out and about they run your plates youre fucked. Alot of times cops just pull into riding destinations and just sit and run plates and wait for the person to get on the bike... count chocula
Re: motorbikes! good thing i don't 'hang' at the local cool-guy spots otherwise i might have to deal with that too they're pretty shitty on insurance round'ere as well
Some1
Re: motorbikes! I but its usually with like old people i am the youngest out of all the people i ride with usually. I rarely go out with my close friends since they are wicked new to riding. I had one kid fall shook me up real bad so I would rather ride with more experienced people. I gotta get the thing running though I just set it up so i can use a heated vest on it. RC51 Sport Tourer pffft shits gonna be dope

soupBDC
Re: motorbikes! One of them's not like the other. How bad is it if a bike needs the carbs cleaned? Is it something I can do myself? There's actually a few bikes on craigslist for about 500, but they're all a little funky. I went and checked out an early 80's CB450 which was in decent condition but the previous owner painted the engine and put a harley exhaust on it. Calipers and pads needed replacing, and since i had no idea how much that would've cost i walked away.

Some1
Re: motorbikes! oooo all good choices!I am gonna guess that the FZR600 is beat to piss but you can find a shit load of parts for it. dont pay a grand for it I would say give him $600 at most. I am gonna say go for the Scrambler I love those older hondas. You can find tons of parts for them they run forever. It looks in good condition whoever had it put the work and took care of it. I mean look not even any rips in the seat.

soupBDC
Re: motorbikes! What do you guys think of this one? -Yamaha FZ750. Carbs need to be cleaned and resynced. $800 obo. Im taking a look at this bike late afternoon after I take a look at the scrambler.
Some1
Re: motorbikes! Cleaning carbs isnt to bad synching them isnt that bad. Thing that worries me about those two bikes is why don't they have the original body work why have they been repainted flat schemes. They have prolly been down. They are mid 80's sport bikes they have prolly been beaten on a little bit. Although the FZ750 a little less since its more sport touring. Check for damage behind the frames flip up the seats make sure all the wiring is intact listen for knocking and pinging when they start. Make sure the clutch doesnt feel like a piece of shit. Checkthat the tires aren't split and most importantly the brakes work!!
ClueTwo
Re: motorbikes! Wha? I was thinking out loud..I don't know that I would purchase a bike with a predetermined spending limit. Granted, I would never recommend buying new for a first time either. Soup, are you going for a cruiser or more of a sport bike? It looks like you're all over the board with whatever fits your budget..

Some1
Re: motorbikes! I have a soft spot for hondas CB750's especially. I am going to look into taking on a cafe racer build in my spare time if i get this house with the work shop in it. soupBDC
Re: motorbikes! Clue, yeah dude whatever ends up speaking to me as "the one." I checked the scrambler out but the girl who owns it was off some crazy dead-end one-way road from Skyline, and she was in a hurry so I ended up getting to look it over for about ten minutes before we concluded the meeting. Hopefully later tonight or tomorrow I'll ride it. I decided not to check out the yamaha today. That shit's in south san jose, a good hour from where I am so I'll pass. Here's what I've gathered so far on the scrambler: Brake lights, headlight, turn signals, and ignition all work. Tachometer doesn't work. Throttle is sensative and tough to push open. Clutch is sensative and tough to push open. Finding neutral was impossible, and even took her ten seconds to get it. Chrome's been left to rust for the last thirty four years. It's a beautiful bike but I'm not too sure how much I love it, or how well It suite being a starter bike.

Deloner
Re: motorbikes! If its hard to find neutral it probably needs an oil change. Or at least that how it is with dirt bikes.
Some1
Re: motorbikes! eh that stuff isn't to hard to fix... but yea 34 year old bike as your first you may want to go newer...
IHATEU
Re: motorbikes! if your getting those older FZRs for colection purpose and ocasional riding then thats fresh, but for everyday rides is dumb. i hate seeing these squids on old fzrs or any early and mid 90s bike totally being dead serious and riding all fast with their jean shorts, sunglasses and no lid...like they are cool cuz they think they have a "sport bike"... I found the above link I am gonna check them out. If they are in decent shape I might have to pick them up. $400 takes them all...CB350 would be insanely dope. Turn it into something like this...Dual right sideshotgun style exhaust. (prolly steal them from a scrambler.) B A DOUBLE L BALLIN!!! ClueTwo
Re: motorbikes! I told you to buy two...Right on, I'll be through in 6 months, just go ahead and get one ready for me.. Soup, IMO, try to find something newer. Maybe even save up a little more money. Just food for thought I guess. It's not a cheap car that you can just leave on the side of the road. If something happens and that bike fucks up on you going 60 down the highway, you're probably going to die or be seriously injured. Don't do that.
