our neighbors were using our internet access from our wireless routing over here and basically all the phone company did was block their access and left. The only thing they MIGHT notice is a low signal strength on their end, but if they are not even remotely computer savvy they won't even notice. :five-o:

i know this kid who is pretty much a hacker, hes really weird, and as soon as i met him he showed me the easiest way to hack someones computer. i really didnt want or have any interest in seeing someone elses computer, but he said that people who leave their wireless account open are retarded. HINT, HINT. then he got into all this technical shit and i just kept nodding my head. a few minutes later, his roommate came by and said out loud never to give him my screenname, cell number, or any contact info. we laughed and then i realized i actaully shouldnt be friends with this fucking weirdo. hes probably reading this right now, in that case, .....nevermind.

couple years ago i lived with another nerd at a place that didnt have a web connection. he had a laptop with a wireless connection so about once a week we would go to this park in a rich suburb and "steal internet" as we called it. i can only remember one or two connections ever having any security at all but it didnt matter there were so many others to choose from.

I'm a linux user.

No fear here.

Especially not with live security updates.

My only issue is that my root password is pretty easy.

From BoingBoing:

Toronto to become giant wireless hotspot

Toronto's hydroelectric authority is planning to offer citywide mesh WiFi service:

Brian Sharwood, a telecom analyst with the Seaboard Group in Toronto, said it makes sense for a utility to recoup the cost of supporting smart meters by also selling wireless broadband services. "In a way that's the excuse to do all of this," he said. "You're going to run it past a lot of people anyway."

He said Canada's largest municipal electrical utility, which last year purchased Toronto's street light system for $60 million, will likely install the necessary wireless transmitters and receivers atop every fourth or fifth lamp post as a way to blanket the city with coverage -- what the industry describes as "wireless mesh networking."
