yes, a router will route your connections.

wireless and non wireless.

go for what i have a wrt54g (linksys wireless router)

your modem is what receives your signal, your router splits it up

so that multiple computers can use it.

that is a basic explanation. i don't think you want em to go into specifics.

the router is your splitter. wired and wireless.

btw: that router i recommend is highly configurable and cheap.

The price diff between the one casek linked and this:

LINKSYS WRT54GS WIRELESS ROUTER SPEEDBOOSTER

is small. Should i get the latter or its the same stuff more

or less? (sorry i'm clueless when it comes to that stuff).

Re: «<< 12Oz Computer Tech Support >>>

speedbooster doesn't do any good from what i've read.

the wrt54g standard goes through 3 full floors before it hits the computer i'm using now.

no lag, no problems. speedbooster is only a sham to get you to spend more.

3 full floors?!

Damn i hope the security on that thing is good.

I'm gonna be using it on a 6 story building (me on the 3rd) full of offices

so i better cut them leechers off.

Last question. What exactly do i need to attach on my comp (asus p4p800-e deluxe motherboard) in order to connect wirelesly?

the little phoen jack looking things....you should have one on the back of your computer.

not for the modem(dial up), they are larger than that... not very much larger, but similar

that's it. one runs from the cable (or dsl) modem to your router, one cable runs from your router to your computer.

as far as the security, it's very easy to set up. mainter or i can give you a quick tutorial

on setting that stuff up.

for a laptop, i recommend wcp54g

Linksys_WCP54G.jpg

and for desktop wmp54g

wmp54g_v2.jpg

both made by linksys

if you already have a wireless card, maybe you shouldn't worry.

but if you want some good quality stuff, grab it.

i'd bet you could get away with spending less than $150 if you shop around.

Re: «<< 12Oz Computer Tech Support >>>

Any recommendations about these?

32278i0.jpg

I have heard that they are great because they are shielded, but i have also heard they are terrible.

you can get cable shrink wrap at compusa or online. just slide your cable in and get the blow drier out. i think all it does is make more room. nothing too special. flashy, though.

oh, and they make UV sensitive glowing shrink for cables. would be cool in a nice blacklight case setting.
