I think I know what happened...did you use Ccleaner and delete something important? Maybe, an .ini file you needed?

Ccleaner is tricky. If I'm not mistaken, Mainter might be able to help you out, but I'm not 100% sure.

If you can get away with it, there's always the live CD trick...simiar to the Firefox on the USB key trick.

i fixed the resolution problem' date=' my computer recognizes the video hardware, but i'm still getting the error message, but, i can start the program anyway, now i'm trying to make it recognize my playstation[/quote']

ok, this is tricky like shai sai.

you have the updated drivers for your onboard?

an inexpensive ati radeon would help you. ati likes ati.

maybe try a $50 9200 or 9250. if you want. we can solve this, though.

you're gonna be happy with that tv wonder once you get it working.

this happened, i assume, after installing it?

Damn...I missed casek again. Never fails...

I was drinking wine at my neighbor's house, and it turns out their computer needs work...and I need that list of freeware you seem to always have handy.

Oh, it's XP, by the way.

And, I might get a job at this store working on the POS system...score! Good thing, my rent is going up soon.

I think I see you lurking here....if it's a hassle, don't worry, I can look for it...it just seems like you are always on point with it. Like, POW! There it is again...I guess since I don't need it. I never bothered to make a copy.

What do you know about DRM cracks for .wma files? I've heard a whole bunch of conflicting reports, but the Napster crack supposedly strips this type of encoding. If I'm not mistaken it's written in Python, so it's portable.

Re: «<< 12Oz Computer Tech Support >>>

DRM- Digital Rights Management- this makes it really, really hard to fileshare

.wma- Windows music/video file extension - these use DRM

Napster- come on, now...

Python- a very cool programming language

portable- describes programs/scripts that can be used on different systems

At least three people a day say something like, "Slower, and in English this time..." to me. I'm used to it...I stopped talking about tech stuff to everybody except casek, fuse, Mainter, and two of my roommates. I don't count other tech message boards, where I can geek out to my heart's content and not have to think about it...I try to tone it down here.

Also, nobody cares...until their shit crashes, then they care a lot. Then, I'm their bro...I can fix things. I seem to get a lot of beer this way. One time, I even got laid...sometimes, all the hours I spend staring at code turn out to be pretty worthwhile.

Casek (so nobody gets confused)-

Thanks, I forgot about majorgeeks...it's been eight months. That's more or less what I needed to know. Anyway, my neighbor wants to reinstall XP, and has a bunch of .wma files that are DRMed from her comp and Limewire. She didn't know what that meant, either. So I tried to explain DRM, but it was late and I was drunk, so I said, "I'll find out if this will fly, but I have the same problem and I'm still stumped."

For some reason, the XP install on the comp is a bootleg and works okay...but she has a legit copy of XP. If she installs the good copy, my guess is that all these files she has are no good with the new license. But, if they will work, my idea is this- BEFORE I do the clean install, I want to copy ALL of our .wma files on a external HD and unlock them, then convert them to mp3s.

So, is this a good plan, or should I just try to clean up the exisiting install? I'm leaning towards the latter option. That, and I never reinstalled XP...it seems easy enough, but you never know.

i've loked around, can't figure out how to unlock the drm's.

i'm sure there's a way, but i'd go with a clean install of windows xp.

a little spring cleaning is always a good thing.

just ahve her download the real mp3's. transferring wma's to mp3 makes for shitty quality anyhow.

you'll have no trouble with xp. format that disk. clean install.

Re: «<< 12Oz Computer Tech Support >>>

I had this idea that if you could look at a series of .wmas with DRM in hex, you could look for parity in sections of the code, isolate them and see if the track plays...I was reading about unfuck.exe and how DRM strings are only 3500 bytes or so, but it's something like a 256 digit encryption key, followed by three other masking techniques. It's basically impossible, but this Napster crack is supposed to be able to hook the DRM and interfere with it. I'm still waiting to see whether this could be applied to WMP 10 encoding.

Re: «<< 12Oz Computer Tech Support >>>

This is a long stretch but lets see if you guys can help me out on this one.

What i need to do have a record of how many times the space key has been hit in a day. Not only that but i also need to have precise time stamps for the same key along with that. On top of everything i need to know if the key has been pushed and held pushed for some time(and how much that time was). I know that there are things like sniffers and stuff like that but i dont know if those are so detailed. Anyway, although ridiculous sounding this is pretty important for me so any ideas are welcome.

Whenever I wanna get rid of the DRM on a file, I just re-dub it using Adobe Audition. With my record set on "What you hear" I can record a protected file (or any sound source) and save it as an mp3/wav with no quality loss

yeah, but i think he wanted to do batch files. that is a way around it, but not for hundreds of files. that'd suck.
