Mainter
Re: «<< 12Oz Computer Tech Support >>> Censored Searches on Google.cn The following searches contain sites in the results top 10 Google agreed to censor for their Chinese search engine – traditionally, sites contained in the top 10 are deemed to be the most relevant of the millions available on each topic: * democracy * rights * human * human rights * army * mao zedong * what google censors * tiananmen * bird flu * bbc * communism * commie * protests * freedom * jailed * dissidents * radio * communist revolution * hong kong * politics * uk * repression * chinese firewall * water pollution * yahoo * education * falun gong * chinese filters * tank man * ... And if you expand the test to check for words censored in the top 100 of most relevant result sites, you get words like the following: * world * people * we * china * anything * jail * tank * birds * drinks * ice cream * burning books * nazis * fascism * cops * thieves * politics * crooks * animals * voting * europe * a * m * 1 * one * what * why * sergey brin * larry page * objectivity * ... All above samples are supposed to illustrate the scope of censorship, not typical searches. And certainly most people don’t check the full top 100 for any search, and certainly I can’t really test the Chinese web (though if a user from China can add censored Chinese searches in the comments without risking their own security, it’s appreciated; I’ve been browsing random Chinese words and have seen the censorship disclaimer on several of those results). To reproduce these results outside of China, set your browser language settings to Chinese and go to Google.cn. On some result pages, below the actual results you’ll see a disclaimer in Chinese italics. The disclaimer translates to “According to local laws and policies some search results are not showing.” To show 100 results instead of ten, append “&num=100” to the Google URL. Mainter
Re: «<< 12Oz Computer Tech Support >>> Download of the Day: FEBE and CLEO READ MORE: downloads, firefox, firefox extensions, time savers, top, \ Windows only: The Firefox Extension Backup Extension (FEBE) lets you backup all of your extensions, themes, bookmarks, preferences, and even cookies (you can pick and choose if you don't want to backup everything), while it's counterpart, CLEO (Compact Library Extension Organizer) bundles everything into a single .xpi file that you can install on any installation of Firefox. FEBE and CLEO together do the job of my recent Firefox extension packs feature - but the whole process seems a bit easier. The extensions are still a little buggy (I had trouble getting CLEO to work), but this is a nice step forward in making extension packages that are easy to move around and install. You can package up all of your extensions, save them some place handy (I'd probably keep one in my Gmail), and install the .xpi any time you've got a fresh profile or install of Firefox. shai
Re: «<< 12Oz Computer Tech Support >>> Casek, I'll try to keep in touch...recently, when I heard that they were porting Looking Glass to other distros besides SLAX, I remembered how excited you were and thinking, "This guy HATES java, what's going on? Maybe there's something to this..." and having it crash every single time I tried to boot the Live CD. Never even got past the desktop. Aparently, LG3D has been in devel for literally 10 years now...and they still haven't RCed it yet. The eternal beta, it seems...Linus mentioned seeing screenshots of it when he went to work for Transmeta in 1997. it looks awesome, but man, talk about a RAM hog...especially considering the fact that there's no installer, so the only option is to run it live. Also, I just realized that if you can't get something to run on SLAX, it's probably fucked since Slackware is one of the most stable distros available...However, this is also probably a way for Java to find the right devel team to make LG3D stable...beyond the eyecandy aspect, it doesn't do a whole lot besides run a browser, it seems. Then again, I'm starting to like lighter window managers these days. LG3D is anything but light...usually, I run WindowMaker with KDE. What do you think of KDE, by the way? I haven't used anything else for a while...although I just heard about Rox, which was forked off of RISC OS...I'm considering using it to replace Gnome if I find a distro without KDE that looks interesting...so far, nothing fits the bill. shai
Re: «<< 12Oz Computer Tech Support >>> There's been a few 3D X window managers over the years....I think it's the matter of consumer hardware having to play catch-up and developers flexing their skills. After all, you can run anything you want if you work for Java. I'm sure they aren't using crap there....however, in the real world, a lot of us are stuck with 2 GHz processors and half a gig of RAM. You could do it...but why would you want to? I mean, half the time I use Midnight Commander to get things done quickly. File browsing, text editing, and a command line...all in one. It's not beautiful, but I like it. And, I find myself using Lynx a lot lately, too. My roommate is a Mac user, and he didn't get it at first...but he's catching on. Actually, he's been using Terminal more lately...and I have a little more respect for Macs now. Not enough to switch, however, and certainly not for Aqua. 3D window managers are interesting...but I don't see myself ever using them, unless they replace the CLI. And that's not gonna happen. However, when he empties the trash, instead of freeing up space as supposed, the result is the exact opposite: space gets taken up, and in multiples of the actual file sizes. Deleting six songs took up around 130 MB of space. What the hell? I've never encountered such a problem and Google isn't helping.

Any quick answer to this annoying problem? download hyperwrt http://www.hyperwrt.org/Downloads.shtml after it's downloaded unzip/unrar toa folder on the dekstop maybe you might need the verison to number of the router (on bottom of router) to get the specific driver. i forget ok, do this. log in to your admin screen on your router 192.168.1.1 then login go to adminstration then firmware upgrade find your folder that you extracted hyperwrt to, upgrade to that firmware. don't touch anything while doing this. not a damn thing. leave it fro two mintues after it gets done and says "continue" this is for the best. continue. new firmware. yay. now change your channels to something like 11 or higher.
