"The story for Nevada remains the same as in previous years," Scott Morgan, president of Morgan Quitno Press, remarked in the report. "As a rapidly growing state, it struggles with crime and other problems. It has some of the highest murder, robbery and motor vehicle theft rates in the country."

The survey, which did not include the District of Columbia, looked at rates from 2005 for six major crimes including murder, rape, robbery, assault, burglary and auto theft, comparing those to the national average.

Neighboring Southwestern states New Mexico and Arizona joined Nevada as second and third most dangerous states across the country, followed by Maryland and Tennessee.

I live in the safest city (at least in 2005). I used to live in one of the most dangerous cities- New Orleans.

My, how things change.

alaska is a lot more violrnt than most think.

what kind of crimes are people committing there. just curious.

but then again, boring places also tend to = massive drug use + mischief + high drop-out rates

One of the safest cities is Round Rock,TX.

I lived there for a year.

It's real rich and white.

We moved there because it was easier for my mom to get her Section 8.

Due to low-levels of poors.

It was real bammer.

Not in the good way.

Boring.

The police there are notorious for being super harsh.

I try to avoid that county.

I guess when theres alot of dope going through town you must be safe (round rock, tx). I dont get it.

The meat of round rock is set off of i-35... so really the dope is just going through i-35... and really if you want to get REAL technical... passing through is not dangerous.... and any smart runner would avoid i-35 all together... served... and served.

I can understand Vegas being on that list. All of those cheap $6 steak & lobster dinners and $5 all-you-can-eat buffets used to lure you into the casinos? Combine that with all of the people that go there to retire and just get fat and play golf. Plus, that desert heat tends to keep motherfuckers indoors and on the couch.

^true.

mogadishu, rio de janeiro, baghdad, manilla, etc...

i think the united states just has the highest crime rate of first-world, "industrialized" nations. i think glasgow is the murder capital of europe, and is higher than many u.s. cities of the same size (d.c. is roughly the same size, but double the murder rate of glasgow)
