so i finally bit the bullet and bought a new computer.

 

amd 3800+ dual core athlon processor 64 bit

gigabyte motherboard with two video card slots

120 gb main hard drive

2- 200 gb hard drives (gonna do raid 1 or 0)

sony 16x dvd / cd burner with dual layer rewrite

2 gigs memory 400mhz

256 radeon graphics card with tv tuner (600 pro)

sound blaster audigy (platinum)

monitor switch (turning my other desktop into the pornomatic)

wireless adapter by netgear

and then the case ofcourse (430 watt power supply)

 

tis all.

 

what are you guys on currently?

I'd suggest avoiding raid 0 or 1. I can already firmly tell you that you're not doing either of the two things that would possibly see a benefit from Raid 0, and Raid 1 is nice but these days you'll tear through 200GB like it's nothing downloading from torrents and the like. You'd be best off keeping the drives seperate and making backups. RAID is a gimmick on consumer machines, sort of like those SLI capable PCIe slots it has.

 

Other than that, nice setup.

What kind of monitor? What kind / how old of videocard?

 

I've seen it happen from failing fans and overheating on 3D accelerator cards before, usually if the monitor itself is screwing up you'll get weird flickering or color cast over the entire screen, not just a couple of lines.
