Rave broken up Riot-style

This is something I read off another board I browse on vintage synthesizers. I'm not a raver but I still feel that this whole thing is fucked up. Everything after this is taken from a post by some dude named "futureworlder". Video footage, also:

"This is disgusting. Some of us were aware of the legislature silently passed with The Amber Alert Bill and Patriot Act , but were too late and unable to stop it. It has to be stopped now- i implore you all to get in touch with your local representatives and tell them that this is unacceptable behavior anywhere especially here in AMERICA.

Please repost this if you care about basic human rights and feel that this is wrong. This happened in Utah please read below.

Here is the video footage:

Knick of Evol intent puts the night's events into his own words::

Last night, I was booked to play an event about an hour outside of Salt Lake City, Utah. The hype behind this show was huge, they presold 700 tickets and they expected up to 3,000 people total. The promoters did an amazing job with the show.. they even made slipmats with the flyers on them to promote in local shops.

So, we got to the show around 11:15 or so and it was really cool. It was all outdoors, in a valley surrounded by huge mountains. They had an amazing light show flashing on to a mountain behind the site, the sound was booming, the crowd was about 1500 people thick and everything just seemed too good to be true really. Well...

At about 11:30 or so, I was standing behind the stage talking with someone when I noticed a helicopter pulling over one of the mountain tops. I jokingly said "Oh look, here comes big brother" to the person I was with. I wasn't far off.

The helicopter dipped lower and lower and started shining its lights on the crowd. I was kind of in awe and just sat and watched this thing circle us for a minute. As I looked back towards the crowd I saw a guy dressed in camoflauge walking by, toting an assault rifle. At this point, everyone was fully aware of what was going on . A few "troops" rushed the stage and cut the sound off and started yelling that everyone "get the fuck out of here or go to jail". This is where it got really sticky.

No one resisted. That's for sure. They had police dogs raiding the crowd of people and I saw a dog signal out a guy who obviously had some drugs on him. The soldiers attacked the guy (4 of them on 1), and kicked him a few times in the ribs and had their knees in his back and sides. As they were cuffing him, there was about 1000 kids trying to leave in the backdrop, peacefully. Next thing I know, A can of fucking TEAR GAS is launched into the crowd. People are running and screaming at this point. Girls are crying, guys are cussing... bad scene.

Now, this is all I saw with my own eyes, but I heard plenty of other accounts of the night. Now this isnt gossip I heard from some candy raver, these are instances cited straight out of the promoters mouth..

- One of the promoters friends (a very small female) was attacked by one of the police dogs. As she struggled to get away from it, the police tackled her. 3 grown men proceeded to KICK HER IN THE STOMACH.

- The police confiscated 3 video tapes in total. People were trying to document what was happening out there. The police saw one guy filming and ran after him, tackled him and his camera fell, and luckily.. his friend grabbed it and ran and got away. priceless footage. That's not all though. Out of 1,500 people, there's sure to be more footage.

- The police were rounding up the staff of the party and the main promoter went up to them with the permit for the show and said "here, I have the permit." The police then said, "no you don't" and ripped the permit out of his hand. Then, they put an assault rifle to his forehead and said "get the fuck out of here right now."

Now.. let's get the facts straight here.

This event was 100% legal. They had every permit the city told them they needed. They had a 2 MILLION DOLLAR insurance policy for the event. They had liscenced security guards at the gates confiscating any alcohol or drugs found upon entry (yes, they searched every car on the way in). Oh, I suppose I should mention that they arrested all the security guards for possession.

Oh another interesting fact.. the police did not have a warrant. The owner of the land already has a lawsuit against the city for something similar. A few months ago, she rented her land for a party and the police raided that as well. And catch this, the police forced her to LEAVE HER OWN PERSONAL PROPERTY. That's right. They didnt arrest her, but made her leave her own property!!!

Don't get it twisted, this is all going down in probably THE most conservative state in the USA. And this is scary.. a gross violation of our civil liberties. The police wanted this party shut down, so they made it happen. Even though everything about this event was legal. The promoters spent over $ 20,000 on this show and did everything they had to to make it legit, only to have it taken away from them by a group of radical neo-con's with an agenda.

This was one of the scariest things I have ever witnessed in person. I can't even begin to describe how surreal it was. Helicopters, assault rifles, tear gas, camoflauge-wearing soldiers.... why? Was that really necessary?

This needs to be big news across the USofA. At least in our music scene (edm as a whole)... this could happen to any of us at any time. When we're losing the right to gather peacefully, we're also letting the police set a standard of what we can get away with. And I think that's BULLSHIT!

The system fucked up last night... They broke up a party that was 100% legal and they physically hurt a lot of people there at the same time. The promoters already have 6 lawsuits ready to file with their lawyers and the ACLU is already involved.

I'm sure some pictures (and hopefully some video) will surface soon. I'll make sure to post them up here on 404, so you can see the Police State of America at work.

First off, this is shitty beyond belief. But, a law was passed two years ago that basically allowed this, in principle.

Link to info about the "RAVE Act": http://www.emdef.org/index.html

This law sucks, but does not allow the blatant use of force and disregard for human rights and civil liberties displayed by the great national gaurd of Utah, 'protecting you from the constitution whenever possible'.

I dunno. Write your congressmen. Bomb harder.

peace,

I love how all the pigs have to do is pass a law and all of a sudden it's ok. What if the law said it's alright for the Natianal Guard to open fire and execute all the ravers? Is everyone gonna just bitch and moan for a day or two then say "oh well, it's the law. nothing anyone can do about it"?

Slightly off topic but I been to at least 2 houseparties where the cops showed up and litterally robbed the house. Like told everyone to get the fuck out or they're going to jail then proceeded to load up the patty wagons with TVs, stereo equipment, bikes and whatever else they wanted (including boxes full of porn :haha: ). Who you sapose to call when the cops (including a couple leutenents) rob your house? And these werent even roudy parties only one of them even had underage kids.

Well SF1 being that noone was shot its obviously not a police state. hahaha nah im playing man. but come on these people shouldnt of been breaking the law. and not that they were breaking the law by being there tbut hey if they are at a rave they must have dope right right....i mean come on now people if you dont wanna be harrassed then dont leave your house...cover it with duct tape and plastic, move your fam into the basement and practice incest...ahaha...but for reals this is cracking off everywhere..I thinks its really because these parties may be a breeding ground for anarchist ways of living...

A 'Freetekno' Party was stopped during the weekend by a series brutal and irrational actions of the Czech Police. Around 6000 people were attacked by the riot cops while having a party. The Highway was blocked and people entering the Czech Republic were turned away at the border, discriminated against on the basis of their looks.

Czechtech 2005 is the 12th Annual Freetek Party in the open air. This years, self-organised, event met unusual hostility from the Czech Police.

The first soundsystems and visitors gathered, on legally rented land, near the city of Milec, on Friday Morning (29th July). From the early hours the police blocked the exits from the highway, D5, causing an 8 km long traffic jam. Eyewitnesses reported police trying to stop people leaving the highway based on their looks. Around 150 people sat on the road requesting to continue on their way to Milec. After 6 hours, following an ultimatum, at 13:00 the police used water-cannons and heavy force to clear the blocked highway. Abandoned cars were towed away. The police continued to block exits to the highway, as well as several routes around Milec.

Official statements from the police said that the legal contract between the owner of the land on which Czechtek 2005 was to take place were invalid. The Czech Minister for Justice, Frantisek Bublan, a member of the social-democratic CSSD, also stated that the contract was invalid and claimed that the owner of the land had revoked it. Later on Friday the contract got to the media, as well as several inteviews with the legal owner of the land. These confimed his support of the event and the validity of the contract. Following his statement, Senator Jaromír Štětina and the Czech Green Party requested that Minister Buban stops the raid against citizens of Czech republic who have not commited any crime by gathering on legaly rented land. Nevertheless, the police continued to block the area without reason.

During the night several thousand visitors managed to pass the police lines, leaving cars behind on the road. The police received reinforcements from Pilsen, brought in vans and buses. By Saturday morning, the party had 5000 visitors and around 300 cars that had managed to make it. Music started to play from the soundsystems.

A spokesperson from the Czech police claimed that the visitors had damaged neighboring land whend trying to pass their blockade. The landowners filled a legal complaint against the organisers of Czechtek 2005. Citizens of jezd pod Pimdou, a small town near the event signed a petition and handed it to the Police Commander requesting that the participants be allowed to continue on their way. The streets of the city were filled with cars and people who failed to go through the police street cordons.

Police redirected cars coming from the German border in Rozvadov to other border crossings. According to their statistics 105 out of 249 foreigners were turned back at the border on the basis of "coloured old cars, haircuts and tatoos". The D5 Highway was closed on both sides between 128 and 135km.

At 16:25 the police requested the participants, now numbering more than 6000, leave the gathering. If they failed to comply the police action would follow. The assault started at 16:30. Around 1000 riot cops using masses of tear gas and trying to push visitors away from the place. The assault was answered by objects being thrown at the police cordon and people shouting "gestapo" at the police. According to eyewitnesses police used water to damage the soundsytems. There are also unconfirmed reports of the use of gum projectiles and mobile phone disrupting frequency-jammers.

The Shadow Minister Ivan Langer sharply criticised the police attack saying it was a political decision imposed by the Prime-Minister, Jiří Paroubek (CSSD). Czechtek's weblog published a request for solidarity asking people to join a demonstration in Prague at 19:00 in front of the Ministery of Justice.

The police assault ended around 19:20 (before the evening news) with 50 people injured on both sides, police and participants. The organizers of Czechtek 2005 stated that they are going to appeal to European Court for Human Rights in Strassbourg.

On Sunday 31st July at 14.00 another demonstration took place in Prague. The number of the people reached 5000, requesting that Minister Buban steps out. The Czech Leage for Human Rights also joined this request, qualifying the police actions as illegal and the means used against the participants as inadequate and brutal. The Prime Minister Paroubek defends the police actions as "adequate". He also mentioned short-to-be-prepared legal changes to the Czech law of assembly, so that "an event like this will not happen again".

I sapose some idiot is gonna come on here as usual and try and tell us that we don't actually live in a fascist police state and how lucky we are to live in America.

Youll notice that the raid was broken up by local authorities not federal, so your case for us livng in a "fascist police state" is incorrect here.

And what difference would it make if it was the fucking marines or local sheriffs office? It's still the fascist act of a police state.

Again, you are free to leave at any time.

You know how refugees flee countries in which they are persecuted?

You might want to look into that.
