I was thinking about the same thing.

The thing is that oficially or not they can do it if they like.

So the only way could be to give a false name, not going to the same place all the time and not developing films with Graffiti of one area on a store of the same area.

don't give them your real information....my photo lab refers to me as bob barker...I argued enough with them to say this is my real name that they ust put it down for me anyways.

i live on the east coast and get my film developed in seattle....thats one way to ensure things go smoothly....on top of that last time i checked photographing graffiti wasnt illegal so go figure....id be weary of the pictures you took of one of your boys striking a b-boy stance in front of a freshly bombed police car but other than that i think most people have better things to do....

Boogie,

You're such an amateur...I only shoot B&W so i can develop them my self,

then i color them in hand...

Seriously now, you're right, no need to get paranoid over this precautious is another thing.

You never know how many cop friends a developer has-how hero-joe he feels at the moment-how much he hates graffiti and most of all if he really has better things to do.

ya i kinda agree with the whole photography of graffiti issue isnt illegal. but the fact that i did a piece next to a sign saying

"reward crime stopers"

dosnt help to much. I could alwayse say ohh im doing a project in school on graffiti and thats just one of the things i found. no harm done there is there.

when i go into the photoshop should i just tell the person that i was takeing pictures of graffiti for a school project on how bad graffiti is or is that just stupid?

i guess in order to loose the identity of a toy you hafta ask some toy questions am i right.:king:

i was waiting for my friend at the mall

i was 20 mins early so i wandered into the local photo shop just started chatting with the clerk

she said that no matter where where the graff is ie. train , rooftop, wall

they cant tell if its legal or not and they just dont care

think of this, how do they know that it was you who painted it

how do they know if the action shot of they train your painting isnt for a movie set or a legal wall

she says they do hundres of rolls of film a day and they dont have time to waste on calling the cops on every photo that might not be legit

she said there was only one time they called the pigs and that was because one of the rolls of film that came it was porn and the girl looked 12 years old and that is the only thing they wonder if they should cantact athoritys about

thats my shop maybe the people eho work at yours are assholes if so and your paranoid just go to 1 hour photo places, for sure they dont give a shit

and just think of it this way... do you really think the high school drop out who runs film into a machine 8 hours a day really cares about what you do in your spare time.. i think not

GET IT DONE ANYWHERE!

There was a story in the news in at a store aaround the block about this very topic a few months ago. This guy was growing some herb at his house just personal stash. Like a plant or two. So he took some pictures of himself and the plant presumably to send in to hightimes. But he took it to rite aid and one of the ladies decided she "had" to turn this scumbag lowlife degenerate in. So she dropped the dime on the guy. The guy got busted. But Rite Aid issued a public apology to the guy, like it helps. I also believe they fired the woman. It was against Rite Aid policy to call police if they spot suspicious film. The only reason for an employee to notify police is if they see any type of child pornography. The reason for the policy not to report illegal photos is because they don't want people to feel nervous about taking their film to the store to get developed. They want your money period so they don't want you to think they really look to close at your film considering how many people take weird photos of themselves or partners. So chances are these employees won't turn you in for any graffiti. But I would be kinda sketchy if you live in a small town where you might run into the lady that works the photo lab. I doubt she would remember you but you never know. So maybe just for the piece of mind you should leave a fake name for the one hour photo. If you leave your film in overnight or whatever it might be best to use your real name. Just in case something happens to your film and they need to write you a check to refund the money. Almost all big stores including Rite Aid and Cost Co send their film to a company called Qualex. This company Qualex has a habit of losing film. I lost some film at Rite Aid. They had to refund me the mony and gave me a roll of film. They had no idea where the film went. Approximately one year later I received the roll in the mail. I recently lost a roll of vacation film at Cost Co courtesy of Qualex. These processors like Qualex use machines and would rarely look at your film. Maybe occasionally just to make sure the machines are working for quality control.

Just don't say a fucking thing. It's that easy. Turn in your film and pick it up - any added and unnecessary commentary about the content of the film is pointless. Only say something if they say something to you ... which, chances are, they will not do.

ive never had any trouble at all developing graf photos, i take em in, use my real name, and pick em up in a few days. when ive done hour development they dont ask me any questions, they just give me my film...i look it over in front of them and they dont say shit...ive done this a walgreens, walmart, and HEB (texas supermarket). i even take my friends along and we sit there looking at the pictures for a bit while the photo workers wait for their payment. bottom line is they dont care what you take pictures of, and ive never had any problems with them. if they ask you anything just be straight forward and tell them its non of their buisness. dont take any action shots with your face...if they invite a cop, you dont even have to talk with the cop, if the cop is an asshole like many are when it comes to graffiti, just feed him some lies, or tell him you just like taking pictures of graffiti and you enjoy the art. this is another reason why i dont take action shots anymore, i dont want any trouble with anyone asking me who is in the picture...if the police get a search warrent and take your photoes with action shots, you will be in a world of shit. they will hassle you for life...so just be smart, its not too difficult. if you get far in the graf scene, cops will eventually get to know you by name anyways, im not worried about that, as long as they dont build any evidence against me...thats why i dont really care about using my real name when i develop photos...the key is to play it smart around police, youre not entitled to answer any of their questions at all...they might maradize you, but the first miranda right is the right to remain silent, you dont have to tell police shit...

actually, depending on the surfaces you are flicking, it is illegal..

it is against the law to flick graff on clean trains in new york, if im not mistaken....

and on fr8s you can get popped for taking flicks of graff as well.

most developers dont give a fuck though, im sure theyve seen MUCH worse in the course of their day.

..i only use one hour developing, so there's no sending it away to a lab i don't know about..

i never use my real name or phone number, and i refuse to give my address (i've never had a problem with that)

i haven't had any trouble so far, in eight years

I didn't read this whole thread so sorry in advance if I'm being redundant:

I never worried about dropping film off of graff...until I just thought of this. They just passed the Anti-Terrorism bill through congress. There are alot of shady things about this bill. Check out the ACLU website for all the details. But basically, there is a section that makes it very easy for FBI and police to search one's home or premises without a court order. So if there's a hero at a photo developing center who bothers to drop the dime, they can now just decide to search your home under the premise that you 'might' be part of a terrorist organization. So - I guess the idea to use a fake name and address is the best one I've heard. And if shit gets sketchy - get a lawyer, or get the ACLU on your side!

I can see the cops using this anti-terrorism bill to combat infractions and misdimeanors like graffiti and even small time drug dealling without going through the proper procedures. With that, and the youth crime initiative, we're f-ed!

Anyone else got any input?

When i went to the photolab to pay a friend noticed some of the flicks i took were in a stack on a shelf behind the counter. When the clerk left my friend took them and we bucked out. An extra copy of all the readable fr8s was made and paperclipped with the info i gave i on the envelope.

Maybe the guy just liked your flicks and wanted to go out piecing or taking flicks together in the future. yeah right.

Maybe do some looking around for photo places who don't give a rats ass. Probably your best bet would be a non-franchise kinda place, especially one that will print anything.

I bet people that work at photo labs see so much ridiculous stuff that it won't phase them.

ya i guess they would see a lot of fuked up stuff and why would they bother callin the police when you can just be like oh i like to take pictures of graffiti. it would be a waste of the cops time and a waste of the photographers time. i went to a place where the developing is free with the purchase of a disposable camerah so thats what i got.
