earl broclo ESQ Posted December 18, 2007 Share Posted December 18, 2007 mindvapors --golden compass is being called out because of it's religious stand points. the author is an atheist, and the books are about killing god --SO...the american christian front is probably putting a damper on the box office ratings. i think they'll still make a second film though. it will do well in rentals. theo--i thought the schnabel movie "basquiat" was a good film, especially for a biopic. back to "downtown 81" though --i worked at this movie theater in boston. while there, we did a couple weeks worth of screening this film. everyone that talked "highly" of the film, came off as fake to me. i don't know, maybe i'm a prick, but it seemed like they were just loving it because it was a cool thing to do, or it made them hip or something. i could be a prick, who knows, i've been told that before. earl broclo ESQ Posted December 18, 2007 Share Posted December 18, 2007 IOU- fair warning, the story doesn't really express the death of God, at least not the first installment. the author is an atheist, and the series develops into the supposed death of the almighty. when you go see the movie, it feels like none of that is present, which is the big issues with the christians. they feel that the movie was a watered down version of the books, which will get the kids to want to read the novels, opening their minds to his atheist/anti-god world. the movie was fucking good though. the bears are pretty badass.
