Random Searches Begin on NYC Mass Transit ---- My opinion, This is not the most efficent or effective way to face the threat, and the sacrafices it demands are not worth the negliable amount of benefits it produces. May I also add that the police abstaining from "profiling" for the sake of our already trampled constitutional rights is absolutely ridiculous.. how can you say that you want to search passengers to protect the masses, but then want to do it in a "random" manner!??! Searching every 5th person is just stupid, you just wait not to be that fifth person if you have a bomb. I travel often, and I see what happens in the airports with this shit... The two shady characters ahead of you on the line are always waved through, and the person who looks most easily approached,most patient or most aware is the one searched..NOT the people who actually look suspect. This defeats the entire purpose of the searches and makes the infringement of our rights even more unnecessary. It may seem wrong to search people who "fit the mold"~ but the fact is that if you don't the entire search become redundant. You tell me that there's no mold to fit... ????? They have no right to take ours.. Freedom of movement, Freedom of fear and Freedom of privacy are our rights, and I personally don't think that this will be a permanent facet in NYC.. They usually check the suspects that fit the mold in airports, but when they actually go through with random searches it is idiotic on so many levels. And in Texas, a cop or any "peace officer" (fireman, EMT-P, justice of the peace, etc.) can DEPUTIZE private citizens right on the spot to assist them in enforcing the law. I once saw a fireman in civilian clothes arrest a drunk driver with the assistance of a couple of teenagers who worked in a gas station. They took away her car keys and kept her in the car until a uniformed police officer in a patrol car arrived. I was present at a huge freeway wreck caused by two fucking idiots racing in souped-up Japanese cars with spoiler wings. They were racing through heavy traffic at night and tried to merge into the same lane at the same time at about 100 mph. One car hit both retaining walls (bounced back and forth across three lanes of traffic) and nearly flipped. Five or six other cars were damaged. The other racer was damaged (side-swiped) but kept on going at a very high speed. I was about three cars behind these idiots, and very nearly rear-ended one of the cars they hit. Of course, the freeway came to an immediate gridlock. The race car was sideways between two lanes of traffic, all tires flat, all the glass knocked out of the windows and windshield. The air bags had deployed, so Drunken Asshole Driver and his Bimbo Girlfriend didn't get hurt too bad. We had to pull on the doors real hard to force them open, to get them out of the car. Gasoline was running out from underneath the car. It was a bad situation, the gas could have gone up at any moment. We helped them over to the retaining wall, where they sat down, kind of stunned from the wreck. At least four people were calling 911 on cell phones at the same time. I turned around to watch a wrecker truck pull up, and when I looked back, the two of them had jumped over the retaining wall and were running up a grassy slope towards another freeway. These two drunken bastards fucked up five stangers' cars, cost a bunch of people a bunch of money, and then RAN AWAY when the cops were called. We witnesses should have put both of them in handcuffs as soon as we got them out of the car. Fucking assholes. When the cops got there (bored as shit, ho-hum, another car wreck) we gave our statements, and I left. This kind of street racing behavior should result in a five-year suspension of driving license, minimum. I really wish we had physically held them for the cops. Motherfuckers.
