(CNN) -- Wal-Mart heir John Walton died Monday when his ultralight aircraft crashed after taking off from an airport in Jackson, Wyoming, the company announced.

Walton, 58, was the second son of Wal-Mart founder Sam Walton and served on the board of directors of the world's largest retailer.

He was ranked No. 7 on the Forbes magazine list of the 400 wealthiest Americans in 2004, with a fortune estimated at $20 billion.

I gotta say, I was happy to hear about this.

Proof positive that being rich don't make you smart. Let's see, he has a zillion dollars, and what does he do for fun? Flies extremely dangerous ultralight aircraft. Dumb ass.

I was kinda thinking along the same lines. You have 18 billion dollars...and you're flying an ultralight? what the fuck? I can easily understand wanting to be a pilot, get your own plane and fly...but I thought ultralights were reserved for wealthy rednecks that didn't want to jeopardize their lawn furniture.

kind of a sweet revenge for all the single moms and poor people who are forced to work 38 hour a week jobs, with no benefits, and all the cheap immigrant labour they employ, and all the women they dont promote to mangement.

vancouver just denied a green walmart today.

thank god.

was cool he was a war vet and a medical hero though. but yeah, why is he flying some stupid dangerous plane in wyoming of all places? at least fly it into a casino in monte carlo or something cool.

I don't know, maybe he was just trying to live a regular life. I imagine that having 18 million dollars would pretty much guarantee that there would be a lot of layers of lawyers and big, thick-necked security guys between you and Real Life. Maybe the Gilded Cage got to be a little too oppressive after twenty or thirty years.

But if I was John Boy, I believe I would have made sure my workers had access to decent benefits and health care. He's got millions, and they can't take their kids to the dentist. Sucks. I guess this is Reason# 9,756 to GO TO COLLEGE.

it seems like all these ultra rich, ultra political people always end up dieing in plane crashes..... hmmmmmmm

A lot more middle class people die in plane crashes... but no one wants to hear about Joe Schmoe. Anyone dying is tragic in some form. Best of wishes to his family.
