you don't, you just keep going and doing things until what you produce no longer looks like shit. trying to get too fancy too early is the classic toy mistake, doing simples builds your basic understanding of how letters are constructed.

the first thing i was taught was bars, meaning building your letters with well, bars. once you get that down its just a matter of fuckin around with it, messin with the flow or how you bend the letters, whether they are sharp angled or curved etc. but everything starts with bars.

just keep drawing, thats all you really can do.

Amen to that romero. I dont know the amount of times i have gone back to the simplest structure because my shit feels too toy. Work simples with bars and slowly add flavour when it feels right. There is no substitute for drawing everyday.

to draw on what romero said: the reason everyone says start simple and stay simple is so that you learn letter form, not handwriting basics of "this is an R" but understanding balance and weight. You learn this through very basic use of bars, once you've got that you can start a slow manipulation of form.

don't worry about anything but the letters and basic 3d for a while. weird gas clouds and bubbles don't distract from shitty form.

i would try and make the other letters smaller in proportion to that k... that K is kicken but the other letters are too fat/big id say... i also think those fat arrows should be thinned out a bit like the other ones.. cool extensions though.... i need to work on mine......

think about consistency and weight throughout each letter.

each of yours has a varying weight within itself, and then different from each other letter, balance that.

and probably drink more.

true for the D and the O, could have been polished up I think

but

a) I don't really care about it being readable or slightly unreadable, as it is for myself

b) !kyudo, what is complicated in that ?

I hate simple letters, they bore me out the second my pencil makes them

continue feedback please !

well, that aside, your work is messy so thats something you should work on.

You say you dont care if its readable but graffiti is letters therefore its based on structure. if you want to draw shapes go somewhere else and dont call it graffiti but if you want to draw letters it would do you well to learn basic structure first and work on crazy shapes later. I have seen so many people that never went through the basics properly to start with and spend years stuck inside the same ugly shapes because they have no basis from which to progress.

Did you come here to learn or just to reject feedback? Im not beefing with you, im just not entirely sure what you want to hear.

People don't say simple letters just so you can make simple letters for the hell of it, it's an important step in my opinion. People said the same shit to me on this site when I started, because I was trying to do some crazy wack ass shit like you just did. And even though I thought it looked awesome, it didn't even look kind of awesome. Starting simple helps you understand how a letter flows. From that simple you'll start to morph it and stretch it, and then come the extensions, etc. It's all a process. You don't have to start with simples, no. But starting simple and slowly morphing and moving the letters made me get pretty decent pretty quickly.

kyudo I won't sugar coat it. If you don't learn letter structure and are able to execute that then your graf will always be shit. I couldn't even make anything out on your drawing.

And rocking simples is great, I still do it all the time
