asdf_va!
yeah, I'm not that great at taking pictures while trains are moving so some stuff is left out ^^just use iso400 speed film and turn your flash off. Keep the sun to your back if you can, and don't lead your shots (don't follow the train you are flicking). Just hold still in one spot, wait for the train to come into your view and flick it. If you stand still while using 400, the shot can come out really great. Even with a shitty disposable camera. If you are using a digi or manual camera, of course, make sure you prefocus on the distance you plan on shooting at. You(most) might already know this, but just in case you don't... Nice flicks. nihilcuro
can you change the speed on a point and shoot digital camera?
asdf_va!
^^I've never seen one that you can't. Maybe the one use disposable digi's they sell at Rite-Aid/CVS. But all Digi's, even cheaper ones, have a speed setting. The setting section is called ISO and your options will be AUTO, 100, 200, 400... and so on. Use the 400 for motion or night shots. 400 was made for trains. It's your best option for catching night flicks of fresh trains. If you are taking night shots of freshly painted trains, get some masking tape and tape it over your flash. For decent and or large flashes, you can put a couple sheets of tissues or toilet paper under the masking tape. This will stop that awful glare that shines off the wet paint. It also dulls the flash from the reflective strips on cars. I would have to say that CN hoppers are the worst to flick in the daytime or at night. This trick will help.
