metallix
So many people say we are/are not free. Our schools teach were the freest country on earth (obviously this is a fallacy.) Yet so many people label so many countries free/not free and compare it to us as free/not free. What is being free? I know this is entirely subjective.. but i want some idea of what people think being "Free" is????????

AORAone
well, for the most part we are free, theres always going to be some line in which the freedom is drawn, but only to protect it for you and me. just take a look around tho, anything is freedom really, you choose your own career, you live the way you want, to the fullest really, if you wanna rob people, fine, but of course your freedom will be taken, but thats your choice. some limits are more reasonable than others, and some down right rediculous, but it works. thats freedom to me i guess. its not a hassle to be here. only you make the hassle

fatalist
I would say that we are freer than many nations, but our puritan roots restrict a lot of our freedoms, like the freedom for privately run radio stations to swear, or privately funded television channels to show nudity... Switzerland(Schweiz), is a true democracy, where people themselves are engaged in the debates between their government officials. They have absolutely NO restrictions on tv channels after 8 pm. and now you choke
Freedom is a brilliant lie. Operate it on your own account and what you have is whatever you will. I reckon therefore I do, so forth. I suppose we allowed this little linguistic collusion take course. Nonrealization becomes a really fucked reality. 20,000-100,000 dead Iraqi civilians, 1,000+ dead American soldiers. And remind me if you can why our nation has one right or reason to impose this convoluted notion of self-importance on a foreign country without lying, please. and to quote an undying band of the Reagan-era, a deja vu: The Crucifucks "The Savior" "no one was too surprised to hear the news that day / america had raped your sacred land / and if that wasn't bad enough / your little child is lying still because of some fool's bloody plans / it's been a while since i've been around so i will be there on time / they thought they'd killed you were only mourning while your people cried / and then my so-called brothers in this land of hate laughed and shook their fists about the war / it's terror out of our hands again but still they say democracy and freedom prevailed once more / it's been a while since i've been around so i will be there on time / i am the savior, u.s. behavior is far below the slime "
Guest imported_b0b
Just about every 1st world country is free like America, but for some reason you chaps just love talking about your freedom all the time when everyone else just gets on with being free. So rather than defining freedom I am more interested in why you lot won;t shut up about it. To me it sounds like you are trying to brainwash yourselves. ledzep
I don't think that freedom can exist, sort of like equality. I've given up on the idea of "being free" and concentrated more on "being free enough" to be happy, to live my life, etc.
