Which one would it be? I used the Rustoleum American Accents that says "Gloss Clear" and it also says that it bonds to plastic but it turned my chrome paint into a dark gray and didn't look like chrome at all. Did you use the rustoleum clear coat on chrome and can you attach a picture of it?

Does anybody have a suggestion on what type of clear coat to use on chrome paint? To mention I also painted the chrome paint on plastic.

I know, July 2016, but I just found this and had the same question 20 years ago.

This is to address how to gloss clear coat over commercial product aerosol "chrome" sprayed onto something.

FUTURE Floor Shine is the answer to this. It wont craze plastic or "chrome" finishes. Most aerosol clear have solvents and propellants that attack the "chrome" paint finish effect. FUTURE is a water based acrylic that can be shot through an airbrush, brushed on with horse hair, sprayed through a pump spray bottle, or the part ("chrome" sprayed thing that wasn't described in detail) can be dipped into.

This product has changed names and labels so depending on what country you're in, this link might help: http://www.swannysmodels.com/TheCompleteFuture.html
