I got my bike as a tip for some work I did back in the late 90's. I have always wondered what year it was made and found a website that showed me how to find out.

http://vintagecannondale.com/index.html

Great site, I found that my bike was made in 1985 which is older than I had thought.

Here is a pic from the catalog, Cannondale Touring ST400

I put many miles on this thing before I put it in storage a few years back, recently broke it out and tuned her up. Good Times!

any of you use a hanger/rack/shelf to hang your bikes indoor?

my place is pretty small and i'd like to get the bikes off of the ground in a low profile way - if possible.

any ideas??

That pulley system makes a whole lot of sense for heavy bikes, in an apartment with high roofs, otherwise one of those hooks would be fine.

Serious question: if i was to move to san francisco, how the fuck would i clean my cross bike? Do people shower with their bicycles? I think there's like five garden hoses in the entire city.

thanks everyone -- yeah, i've seen that shelf …and i like it.

in other news:

it's 2011, and in northern california the season kicks off with a new years hill climb - a 3.5 mile "mountain" that ranges from 6%-8% and kicks up to 10%+ switchbacks towards the summit.

when i got to the parking lot the ground was wet from the nights rain and the top of the mountain was covered in fog. overcast skys and chilly temps, but the forecast showed no rain until later in the day.

while taking my bike off the trainer i noticed that the paint cracks i'd been watching had now evolved into separation of seat stay from seat tube — bummer.

i thought about abandoning, but that would be lame, so i said fuggit and promised myself to be careful on the descent.

my field of approx 30 riders staged, and waited …and waited. we sat there just long enough to get cold again, and then it was time.

the take off was brisk enough to make my legs groan, but nothing too punchy.

the hill starts at about 6% and goes up. by the time we got around the 8% mark i said goodbye to the wheel i was following and took the shoulder up to about the 7th position. the huffing & puffing was getting louder and it was easy to see who was going to last.

i saw a few heads move left and go for a bit of a break, so i latched on and went with'em.

we strung it out pretty good and by the time i had a chance to look back, there were only about 3 or so riders hanging on - barely.

pace picked up a bit more and i was still feeling good - by this time we were left with 6 of us coming into a turnaround that flattened out a bit.

we cooked it through there in the big ring and approached the final few km's where the hill hits 10%+.

came up on some stragglers from the previous groups - one guy even cut me off to try to grab the wheel i was on, but he was cooked, so i had to dodge his dumbass to close the gap again.

in the end we crossed the line in about the same order as we hit the steep pitches. some 100lb junior took the win and i came across 5th.

all in all it was a good race for me and a definite confidence booster (got some points!) for the start of the season.

Found this in my back yard. Choc if you ever go up tam and down bolinas/fairfax road, holler at me. The road goes over this dam and dumps you at my house. Everyone races sportbikes/bicycles here so you should hang.

Also found some serious gravel roads nearby alpine lake called "kent pump fire road." pulls up on google maps.
