photobecane
id love to know the story behind that rider, the track and that bike (looks homebuilt) im assuming thats how track racing got started, dirt tracks. try taking a look through this book, i think that pic may be in there.

andyoner
any suggestions on a good reliable tire for my bike so i wont get a damn flat from hitting a rock or train tracks???
rubbish heap two
Gatorskins. You get flats on train tracks from not having enough pressure, so pump 100 PSI or higher.

Ernie McCracken
I'm still waiting on the new bike... not sure how I feel about tubular wheels, though. Anyone have any experience with them? i rode tubulars on the street , back tire went flat half way to work the first day. on the second day, i ran over a pin from a theft device with the front, so i filled it with green slime and it bled through the sidewalls. sold them the next day. Joker
Thanks for the feedback on the tubes, folks! I've ridden carbon clinchers for a few years now but other than them being completely carbon like a tubular... you can run clincher tires so it really wasn't any different for me. I'll only be racing the tubulars in road races so I plan to have some spare wheels for the follow vehicle just in case. There are what I'll be riding on : I still have my Reynolds carbon clinchers though... trying to hold off from selling 'em because I love 'em so much :
acer910
snapped my brake cable on the commute today. VERY bad breaks+car pulling out in front of you+2 fingers on the bottom of the lever in the drops=snapped cable.

count chocula
pulled the trigger on a full sram group. next stop - this frame/fork:
rubbish heap two
Very nice..... Eventually I want to get a SRAM group on my cross bike. I'm gonna start with the shifters and rear derailleur... that alone should shave nearly half a pound off the 105 shifters/Ultegra RD on there. count chocula
yeah i'm pumped.
Joker
I know what you mean... SRAM Red on the new rig, very excited about it. That BMC looks nice count. No outdoor riding today, too chicken shit to be out in the cold, wind and rain. Hope it's nicer tomorrow... got a long one with the team. count chocula
thanks - i was very concerned about the geometry on paper. the seat tube for the large measures only 52cm... but the top tube is correct. took some time to speak with the dudes at comp cyclists, who are super helpful, and they explained that the frame is just not typical at all. so you basically just rely on the top tube measurement. acer910
i think thats one of the most beautiful frames ive seen in a long time. its up there with Ghost and Ribble in the looks... no idea about anything else tho haha
rubbish heap two
Good weather (by January in OR standards, which means not raining) and good riding today. Although dudes who don't ride with fenders, or have shitty ones, are never fun to be drafting in the paceline on the big group rides. Mad water up in my eyes... 60 miles with over about 2.5 hours today.
acer910
rode out to the island today, all the salt marshes were frozen. it was crazy. i need to find some people to ride with oh, and i took some of my spacers off (i just put them on top of the stem instead of cutting the steer tube just yet) and i think i fucked something up because now the front end rattles a bit over rough stuff. i havent tried the pushing forward and back with the brakes applied thingy yet though
rubbish heap two
It's your headset. Take the bike to a shop and have them look at it.
count chocula
there's an order to tightening the bars, stem, etc. if done wrong it'll rattle. I'm sure someone can chime in on it. --- huge crash in todays crit... makes me wonder about rocking a new bike.
acer910
damn... it probly happened when i went to pick up the bike to move it a bit when i had the stem off and i grabbed the top tube without thinking. its rideable, but il take it in tomorrow.
rubbish heap two
Chocula, best not to rock a new/fancy bike in the crits until 3's or something. Even then, there can still be gnarly crashes.
Joker
Yeah, cat 4 & 5 crits and races are like entering Thunderdome with a bunch of nervous and way too eager bike racers. It should be mandatory for the 4 & 5 cats to race a handful of BMX races to get used to the bumping and racing close to one another, at speed. Rough rides this weekend. Tired for sure.
