XJONATHONX
Are you tighting the shit out of them? Really get some torque when you tighten your cranks. Yeah I tightened them down as tight as I could. I think I'm going to just loctite it then carry a box end wrench on my keychain to tighten it up when it gets loose. im thinking this bike is going to become a pit. as soon as you fix one thing something else breaks, before you know it youve bought an entirely new bike but with an oldass frame. unless you can get a really good deal on some cranks id sell the whole bike. Trust me it won't. I already have two things I burn money into, this won't become another. Also, can I attach a water bottle cage with self tapping screws? R@ndomH3ro
Sucks man, this is another thing that I think is a scam on bikes soft metal of cranks against the spindle will damage them...really man, they should just make them out of better materials, but then again i guess you wont that light as fuck bike. Maybe try some blue locktite? it will keep the bolt from coming off. Make sure its the blue one, anyother color and you will never get that bolt off

acer910
no problemo. im in your situation, but now i have help. and i know how much im thankful for the help i have haha. and most importantly, MAKE FRIENDS WITH THE PEOPLE AT YOUR LOCAL BIKE SHOP! XJONATHONX
All the people at the closest bike shop near me are assholes who dont try to help you. I went in one time a few months ago look for some info on bikes and to learn more about them saying i didnt want to spend more than $600 and all they were telling me about is how $600 bikes have real shitty stuff and im just going to upgrade after a few months and just generally were no help. Fuck them.
acer910
oh foreal? you probably talked to the salesmen, they tend to be like that. my local shop has the work space integrated with the showroom so you can just bypass the salesmen and talk to the mechanics. who are a bunch of college kids and a few older dudes but they arent selling you anything and they get payed by how many bikes they build so they will give you an honest opinion. Joker
Heard about this bike last night from a good friend who works at the bike shop that was selling it. Said it was still available and it was only $500. Went in today to more than likely pick it up and it was sold. Damn fun looking for $500... acer910
damn right it is. its treks 69er. i might build up a 69er... 29er suspension forks are hella expensive though
XJONATHONX
Whys the front wheel bigger? Just got back from a very very hilly 15 mile ride. So bad. I had a gatorade and a banana 1/3 the way through and half a banana (accidentally broke it in half and dropped it on the ground) 2/3s the way through. Crank arm got loose 2/3s the way through. My dad brought me a wrench to fix it with and it was good. Im fucking tired all over.
acer910
its a 69er. 26 inch wheel in the back and a 29 inch wheel in the front. the 29 inch front wheel gives better clearance for obstacle (its bigger so it can go over bigger things) and the 26 inch rear wheel because its smaller is faster. its the best of both worlds. rubbish heap two
Just did that Competitive Cyclist fit calculator (http://www.competitivecyclist.com/za/CCY?PAGE=FIT_CALCULATOR_INTRO&INTRO_LINK=NOREDIR) and it gave me small measurements across the board... well, smaller than what I'm running right now on all 3 of my bikes. Odd. Maybe I'll have to try again and have a friend take all measurements instead of me half-ass doing most of them.
morton
Off topic post... Shit 367 pages. I rode as a commuter for years. About 35 miles per day 5 days a week. Never wore a helmet. My father is also a long time bicycle commuter who does wear a helmet. Last spring he caught the front tire of his bike between two pieces of rubber paving at a rail road crossing and broke his neck. The helmet was shattered into pieces, if he was not wearing it he would surely be dead. I am going to buy a helmet and thought I would drop in here to share my little story. Cary on. Oh, and road bikes fuck the world.
XJONATHONX
If I paint my frame at home with spray paint, will it look like shit?
R@ndomH3ro
If I paint my frame at home with spray paint, will it look like shit? Not really, just sand it down to raw metal get a primer and then spray it. I have sprayed all my bikes and they came out looking awesome. But also in order to do a correct job you have to deassemble your bike down to frame. You dont want to spray any of your moving parts or bearings
$HOOD RICH$
XJONATHAX--- IF you don't want to sand the whole thing down, buy Jasco at a hardware store. paint that on your bike it takes all the paint off. Then prime it. Then sand the primer so its smooth with a fine grade sandpaper (220) is good. then paint it what ever color, but not to thick otherwise the paint will be soft and wont ever really dry. Do two thin coats. Wait two full days to do the second coat though. Otherwise it ruins the first one and puts a wierd texture on the paint job. trust me, I have done this many times. trial and error. XJONATHONX
I was hoping for as little disassembly as possible. I was thinking about taping/masking everything off. I knew already to sand it down and prime it, just wasnt sure if regular spray paint would be the way to go.

thealmighty...
You don't "have" to disassemble your bike. Just do this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DqXlX2KVjS8.
XJONATHONX
eeehhhhhh you can do it. but i wouldnt advise it. I just dont want to take it apart then forget how to put it back together, or not have the necessary tools. I planned on taking the wheels off, taking the rear derailer off, and taking the brakes off. And only taping off the bottom bracket/cranks.
