What scares me is that people all over the internet still look at stuff like this as though it is a big joke. This is not a joke.

The world is changing and the established powers do not want to relinquish their power or change their games. They have had the upper hand for eons. The power to wage wars, manipulate people, etc.

Now, several entities (Anon, Wikileaks) threatens their backdoor dealings (The New Deal, ACTA to name a few) by revealing their gameplan and strategies. Which lifts the veil of secrecy and allows The People to see what is going on behind the curtain.

As we mingle here on Reddit, powerful people talk behind closed doors about how best to contain and control these threats and to remove power from and control people like you and me. To censor information, to keep it locked up in their black box. All the while, information in the Internet seeks to become free, and open to all.

If you think this is a joke, you have not been paying attention or do not understand the stakes. If these power hungry oligarchs win, we will lose the internet and its open nature. We will lose access to information. It will become a walled garden where you must pay to access what you want, if the government says it's okay.

Net Neutrality is under threat constantly, and so too are the very sites with which we give our trust. Who are now, ever so slowly, giving in to government requests for information in their servers (google, bing, facebook, etc). To volunteer that info. About you, about your personal life, your associations, your political beliefs, and your sex life etc.

You all would do well to heed things like this seriously. As the internet is under constant threat to contain and control it. The true nature of the Internet is that it is open and free to all (in that you can access ANYTHING). But this may not be the case soon enough. As one day in the not too distant future your ISP may have to route your traffic through a government black list, and the sites YOU want to see, may not be accessible to you (DHS has already taken plenty of sites). VPN or not.

Joke all you like, but one day this paradise of open information and free might be gone. Replaced with a pay-per-site, pay-per-bit, blacklisted internet where your every move is tracked, your data analysed, and your secrets auctioned to the highest bidder. Perhaps one day you go to download something or search for something and men in black riot gear come busting your door down and put a gun to your head. All because you wanted to learn about something the government thinks you shouldn't.
