MrChupacabra
Re: "WHEEL OF TIME" SERIES Originally posted by panic by Robert Jordan... 10 books long now, and still going quite the read, but its fanatasy shit so i dunno if every one would be down.. the character developement was astonishing.. My god, i started those books like 2 years ago, i think i got through 6, each of them long as hell, and then i was really busy for awhile and never picked back up on them. As far as fantasy reads go, those are really well written and really interesting books, but theres just so damn many of them.

I really got into playing last winter, and by the time summer rolled around I was playing in home games every other day. However, I've slowed down lately. I've noticed how poker is really getting out of hand in my area. All people talk about now is holdemholdemholdem. It's all because of TV shows like Celebrity Poker and, to some extent, WPT (despite the fact the WPT is a quality show) that have brought poker to the masses. Now everyone and their mother thinks they're fucking Sam Farha. "Poker is like sex: everyone thinks they're good at it, but most people don't really know what they're doing" Even though I'm kind of over the game, I need to keep my skills sharp for a huge tourney my friend and I are organizing. $2000+ in the pot, winner is guaranteed over $1000 payed out in a briefcase of $1 bills. Shits going to be sick.

Milton
That's sick. Is the briefcase included? I hate the "I saw it on cable" gang. I don't even have cable, but seriously in a 2-4 game people who take 5 minutes to decide if they're going to call or fold their pair of 7s when the flop is KKA need to be shot... Yeah, the briefcase is included, but there's a chance we're going to use a burlap sack with a huge green money symbol printed on it...both would be equally fresh. We should make a gambler's superthread so we don't have to be mega-off-topic in the book thread talking about poker.

MajorNumnuts
Homeboy Homeboy Seth Morgan Don't confuse the title with some Yo Boy Rap shit...Seth Morgan writes about san Franscisco's sleazy street culture of the early 80's with a picaresque authority. Seth an ex Con and former junkie describes the Californias jail system and it's weird and wonderful occupents, written a lot like Hubert Selby jr . Seth only wrote one book this is it he died in 1990, also for what it matters Seth was a former lover of Janis joplin before she died good book...also reading a Silver Surfer Collection...artwork mind blowing..... SteveAustin- I'd suggest reading something by a different author in between those. I just finished Angels and Demons, and I dug it a bunch, but its very similar to DaVinci Code. It might give your mind a breather if you read someone else in between.
SteveAustin
^^Thanks for the tip. I read the first 3-4 chapter of DaVinci code before switching to Angels. It seems he is very formulaic in his writing approach. I was kind of afraid they might be too similar. I've got a long list of stuff that I should be reading...so I'll insert a couple in between them.
