My, my, graffiti artists sure are progressive.

Recommended Posts

As of lately, I've been seeing topics like "black people are cooler that whites" with comments like "Blacks are scary" etc... I've also seen the obvious hateful remarks towards arabians. I may be mistaken, but the act of destroying property, ie, graffiti, is an act AGAINST capitalism! When graffiti started, it wasn't a bunch of true blue stuck-up shitheads. It was young, lower-class youth trying to get their messages, whatever they may have been, across to the public due to the fact that they would otherwise have been left unnoticed a midst the dense population and society's myths and hate. WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED?!

i hope some of our Afghanistan (sp?) brothers catch a tag all over the forehead of that Terrorist bastard while he's sleeping.

like some "shit head" across his forehead. haha that would be great,.......but realisticly,

back to topic. what ever happened to unity and understanding?not only in the world and graffiti, just everything.

People are so apt to throwing a rock at another human rather then trying to communicate to solve problems.

if only people took the time to think before acting.....to think before saying.

to think

what happened is what happens to every sub-culture: its started by a few eccentric people who aren't scared to go against the norm and do things you're not supposed to do. then it catches on a little more and a few more do it, then after it is well established, the type of people who would have originally viewed it as bad, view it as good. this happened to Jazz. it was originally a black thing that the white majority scoffed at, then over one generation it was embraced by whites. it just recently happpened to punk and hardcore. we are currently witnessing this happening to hip hop, and graff. In 10 years white rappers will be no big deal anymore and white parents wont be alarmed that their kids like hip hop anymore. i think thats why its important that graff be illegal, so this process of erosion occurs at a lot slower rate than the rest of hip hop.

my two cents

grafitti and hip hop are unrelated, sorry to break that to you, and, it has been my experience that people who shout about the corruption of the art, end up doing more shouting than painting, and eventually quit; saying that 'it's all played out now' or something...

oh god, PLEASE PLEASE don't turn this into a stupid "graff and hiphop" thread. i never implied that they were the same, just that they are going through the same type of transition

right on! About to post something exactly like you just posted but you beat me too it, right on. If you fucks feel like being REALLY patriotic then how about stopping undermining existing private property laws (laws intended to keep the ruling class STAYING the ruling class) and go buy some gap clothes?! Or be a cop.

oh man, I can't believe I'm reading this shit. what the fuck?...so...by your "logic", since writers are rebellious and break some laws, while we're at, it we might as well go rob little old ladies and murder people too...now THAT would be sticking it to the man!!...bourgoise pigs! die!

stereotypes are for people with small minds.

Own property? THere is a difference between personal and private property. Personal = your toothbrush or whatever while private = control of access to the means of production. Wow, I'm really spittin' the marxist termonoligy here...next thing ya know i'll be talkin bout dialectical materialism....

alright bro, I'm not sure where exactly this is heading...(umm..so it's okay to kill little old ladies if they own private property then??) I'm too tired for this shit right now. my point was just that writers don't have to all fit into one neatly defined slot..we don't have to be marxists..anarchists..democrats..whatever. fuck it. nothing wrong with catching wreck and listening to creedence clearwater revival.

Bump...just for the title.

Twinkie said in one of those threads that this forum is a micrography of society.Unfortunately this is a micrography of a society of writers.People in here "should" be more open minded since what they do is concidered by a lot a crime.

If graffiti artists were all commiting violent crimes instead of property crimes, then I could see why there are so damn many. BUT we're commiting property crimes. This country revolves around the idea of property and free enterprise. Graffiti goes against that. ANYbody who thinks differently is mistaken. A graffiti artist being closed minded, conservative, capitalist, or all of the above is like a communist supporting social darwinism as far as I'm concerned. Now, I guess I'm an extreme, but extremes make bigger impacts that the people stuck in the middle. Mr lonely heart- just to let you know, mr. soul-on-ice was a socialist. And what the fuck are you talking about killing old ladies? Just register for the draft or something and shut up.

fuck all that.

i dont care who owns what. i just like walking by my name every day.

if you're going to be the politically/socially conscious graffiti writer go out and do your thing in insane spots, dont just talk about it online.

graffiti is wack and uninspiring, so i don't do it.

but if you do not think it is wack, and are inspired by it, then by all means do it.

however, realize that it makes perfect since for a graffiti writer to be a capitalist. for example, the graffiti writer is concerned with property just as much as the capitalist. graffiti writers select spots, become territorial, and start beef over property.

and just like in capitalism, the best and most prolific rise to the top and recieve recognition, respect and/or notoriety. just like corporations rise to the top and recieve recognition, respect and/or notoriety.

not all writers are created equal so they are definitely not socialists. and many writers embrace anarchism and acts of true freedom, but these acts all manifest themselves as capitalism.

so: quit fronting. live up to your ideals.

i, personally, embrace capitalism, although i do see true value in certain acts of anarchy.

but capitalism and graffiti go hand-in-hand: only the strong survive.
