ONE STEP

Recommended Posts

hey doods.

i was out workin on my car last night, pullin shit apart and grinding off rust when my dad told me to buy this shit called "one step"..

its a rust inhibitor that comes in a spray can, with a new york skinny (i take them when my dads done with his cans...)

anyways this shit is water based and it nutralizes rust, it comes out clear but reacts with the rust and turns black. this allows auto body mechanics to puddy or paint over the rust without worring about it comming through later on as long as the rust isnt hella scabby (see what im getting at?)

i know everyone has seen freights with rust coming through the peices or whatever, and i thought see if anyone was interested in trying it out..

the only problem is it takes a hella long time to dry and it is apparently really expencive (10-15$CND a can). I cant tell you where they stock it so you can rack cuz' i order it through a supplier.

the cans are white with a black top and theres a picture of an old blue car with a black patch where a scab used to be on the front of the can.

if someone ever gets a chance give it a try and let me know how it worked.

im gunna get a can for my car and use the rest for a freight sometime, but i dont want to wait a couple hours to let it dry (my dad said it takes like 8 hours!??!)

the thing is, you know how bucket paint is supposed to dry for a couple hours before you paint over, but you can duce it up while its still sticky? i was also wondering if this is possible with onestep.

i'll try and get a photo of the can on here sometime soon if i remeber, along with some info on purchasing.

just a passing thought. peace.

:lick:

...or you could just bring a can of primer spraypaint with you...your freights aren't going to last forever anyway...and i kinda like that rusty look...

like i said, it was just a thought.

i totally understand your standpoints, because i feel the same way.. i like the rusty shots and rusty peices, but then again you might want your shit to last a bit longer.

i supposed you could just hit a nice new train though eh...

i think this idea is fucking retarded..dont you love catching your shit that you painted like 4 years ago..and it looks like it has been to hell and back...i have seen pieces i did in 99' and they look like they went to war and got a few limbs chopped off... i like that rust look...graff isnt permanent..it wont last forever...that sounds like it would take too much time!!

One Step tested

i tried this shit on my car last night and it sucks.

its like really watery krylon that turns black when it hits bare metal.

it also reacts with paint and changes its color as well.

really only usefull for light surface rust, any layered rust wont react well because its too thick.

its good for cars though, and can be primed over, which i will be doing momentarily :)

yeah ive used it on my van. works well for its intended purpose. what kind of car do you have? some dudes up north taught me about the automotive undercoating (which ive also used on my van) that shit covers thick on anything and you can fill with it in the pouring rain. great for bombing.

i have a 71' super beetle in the works.

are we talking about the same stuff?

one step is waterbased and would suck for bombing, add a 10$ price tag and its poop in a can.

maybe your talking about self-etching primer? or just undercoating?
