I was afraid it was gonna go to Bill Murray (also an awesome role, but not on the level of Penn's). Depp was ill as fuck, but he was a caricature of little depth. Bringing the wives into the fold so late was a mistake. It should have finished when Sean Penn walks down that same bit of road with Kevin Bacon watching. I completely agree, that why penn won it..and thats why LIT should win the best movie award...i love the lord but he could manage with one oscar less. The entire theatre was holding their breath! and that bit with Tim Robbins in the cop shop was so bad ass. It's right then when you realise he's not dumb, just crazy. I think both of these are correct. I just saw MONSTER (the movie she won best actress for) and she was utterly awesome. Not to hype it too much but its one of the most intense performances i've ever seen in a film ever. The movie itself is a mind fuck, I was really really warped and sad the rest of the day yesterday and much of today due to seeing that film. A real achievement in film and one of the most intense film experiences I've had. I don't think I could see that movie again. So go see it brownski and then you can agree with me.
