immediate thoughts:

- explains invasion of iraq

- now's the time to get rich so i don't starve

- oil companies aren't that blind as to just be content to let their industry slowly die. are they? I understand that the price of oil will slowly rise until it is a 'rich' thing, but the oil industry itself must have something in mind for the future. Be it atlernative energy or new reserves, they can't be that blind.

they really are....

who do you think is holding down nuclear power...

and the development of hydrogen as a viable power source...

it doesn't matter about down the road to them, all that matters is $$$$$$ RIGHT this instant.

"the future? who cares? we're rich!"

No your an idiot. You will die first

energy companies are at the forefront of acknowledging the impending problems. They are pouring vast expenses into alternatives. They won't be able to pass profit if they don't

I'm an idiot

I live in the heart of oil country, within 50km's of the most cutting edge oil extraction technology in the world...

The only thing oil companies are spending loads of cash on is oil mining. To make more money from the oil they mined.

They pour vast expenses into developing cheaper ways to extract more oil from the ground. And how to mine it a little more safely in the water.... but that's about it. Oil companies really just care about money... and oil.

the fuck do i care where you live?

great arguement. 'they only care about money and oil.'

theres not going to be long term money in current oil business. So they are trying to adapt and prevent carbon emissions and produce substitute energy sources, probably before politicians do.

as someone who works in the oil industry i have to say that all they care about is money.. if they didnt they wouldnt have us working over a 100 hours a week.. they could care less if you are sick, tired, cold... dont matter. we wont have to worry about a oil shortage in ourlife time.

yeah, my grandfather worked for exxon for 40 something years.

he gets these magazines every month or so detailing the new oil reserves.

every time i visit them i like to look through the mags and see what the inside

scoop is. they say nothign about oil shortages.

i'll tell you cats something else, our reason for invading the middle east is not

to get more oil, it's to get control of the oil and turn the production down. that makes more profits. something happened in the 80's and 90's where all the major oil companies bought up all of the refineries just to close a better half of them down. why? more profits.

like dog said, they don't give a fuck about anythign else.

ive yet to work for exxon but Ive heard they are really big on safety... They make everyone who is gonna work on their lease take a day course at one of their plants up here.. and if they need to get something down.. say a frac, it takes like 3 times longer because of their safety values

I somehow doubt these magazines would want to print news about oil shortages, infact they have a vested interest not too.

well, they say nothing about oil shortages because there are none.

thse are "insider" publications. not for the public.

We have more oil inside our borders, than all the other proven reserves on earth.

Here are the official estimates:

* 8-times as much oil as Saudi Arabia

* 18-times as much oil as Iraq

* 21-times as much oil as Kuwait

* 22-times as much oil as Iran

* 500-times as much oil as Yemen

link? (semi) reputable news outlet(s) only please. wsj -> ideal for this particular topic, imo, since investors will view any news in derivatives production as another means to get paaaaaaid.
