Recommended Posts

I just got a laptop for Christmas... I love it. Sitting in bed with wireless DSL and talking shit on the internet.... does it get any better than this? Anyone else out there prefer laptops over desktops?

Definately the way to go. I have both too, except in my case the laptop is better. The only thing I hate about the laptop is not having a real mouse when I'm away from a desk (I have a portable optical mouse for it). Other than that... it kicks ass. And with two computers, we get some serious games of Battlefield 1942 going....

I have both.

I prefer the wireless mobility of my laptop although my desktop is faster and has all my downloads on it so its stacked.

Same here, I have wireless router, but I still have to plug that into the wall and plug in the ethernet cable...but oh well.

I like my laptop more than my PC, but I need to get a desk tho, tired of sitting on the bed.

i have a desktop too (recent kick down) that i'm working on getting updated cuz it has incredibly massive storage space... with the 2 external hard drives, i could fill my laptop completely and still copy the entire fucking thing onto the desktop about 80 times... that thing'll be good fun once i get it up and running...

If you can, I would avoid wireless DSL. It's nice to not have the cords to tie you down but I have experienced a lot of problems such as the following (and keep in mind I have a friend who is a computer tech that has been working on everything since I set it up):

1. We have 4 computers set up on the network. One can only stay connected for about 5 minutes at a time. Who knows why.

2. If you have any 2.4 Ghz frequency phones, whenever someone calls or you call out, everyone will be disconnected from the network due to frequency sharing.

3. If you play any games via a LAN network this shit is confusing as hell. Some computers in our network for some reason can't host (even after we disabled our firewall),and others can't even see eachother.

Get the dsl with wires.... easier to set up, easier to trouble shoot.

It has a lot of problems bottom line and I have read it's only 1/10th the speed of ethernet DSL.

Desktops. The power in laptops will never be as powerful in the same

timeframe, the technology is always many months behind.

ex: laptop video cards

I'm totally spoiled at work with the zany computers here.

Some days I'll be at a desk with 2 monitors, an ntsc video monitor

and a laptop on the side. So I think I'm ready to make a good choice for my home system.

I like the portability of a laptop but hate track pads and the keyboards

are usually pretty shit. I dont want to have to lug around an external

mouse and keyboard if I'm going to be typing for a long time.

I want to get this....

Cybercube / AMD Athlon XP 2200+ / 256MB DDR PC3200 / 80GB / CD-RW / Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition / Desktop PC

with one of these

but a laptop like this Fujitsu P2000 would be dope too!

Guest me IS cool

I got both. I love my powerbook because I can sit on the bed and chat, play games in other rooms, etc, etc. but this is also the same way I ruined my first powerbook (it fell from my bed onto the floor while I was away.

Powermac g4 as a desktop because it rules in video editing/dvd burning/and playing online gaming.

:king:

I've had no problems at all with our 802.11b/g home wireless LAN. You just plug your modem's ethernet cable into the router and plug the wireless router in and you're good to go; especially if your laptop has built in wireless.

When installing PCMA cards, follow the directions EXCACTLY.

It's pretty sweet to be sitting in the bathroom with my 17" HP laptop.

Dual monitors is the SHIT dude. I've got my 22" centered on my desk,

but I think as soon as I can I'm gonna pick up like a 15" plasma to mount

behind the right side of my desk.

Sounds cool right? I also want to put up temp walls around it to mount

the surround speakers I have on... it would be the ultimate home theater...

Hah.. I'm on my HP Notebook and I like it for

accessablilty reasons more.. my friends and I

tend to have giant group sessions on making

shit in audio programs so I like being able to

have everything I've made at my fingertips just

by winding up a cord and packing up. Wireless

network cards make shit way nicer.

On a simliar note.. my friend has an older Dell

laptop and he just got 240g external storage,

an extra 90 or so meg of RAM and just ordered

2 more 17" flat screen plasmas along with $5000

in recording hardware... suck a duck.

I've got a few desktops, but would love the portability of a laptop. As is...I spend too much time on computers at work...so I would probably use a laptop as much as my desktop...not much.
