A good web browser that I tend to use back at my pad was the Avcant Browser. It was so reliant and good save multiples pages without slowing down with speed and good picture caputres with it. It also blocks pop ups ad's and catches spyware on pages.

Anyone know of/if there are any sites I can d/l

Netscape 7.1 themes/skins from? I just switched

from IE for tabbed browsing... This looks alright

on it's own... but it'd be dope if I could choose

something other than 'modern' or 'classic'.

opera

this feature is pretty trivial, but for some reason really useful. if your computer crashes for whatever reason, the next time you open Opera it will give you the option of starting with your home-page, or no page, or with all the pages you had open the moment the computer or program froze.

just saves time.

I didnt expect to see Firebird mentioned on this thread.. but its great to see it represented. Not only is Firebird my favorite browser, it is also the best browser hands down. I've used every other app.. nothing compares. Tabbed browsing means only one window to close at work when the boss is approaching.

Out of curiosity, i downloaded and running for the last 4 days firebird 7.0...i get a few glitches from time to time (mostly with java apps) but its so fuckin dope i aint going back to IE no way....my biggest problem is the size of the reply windows ( yahoo.mail and here)...its like half the size it used to be, the frame i'm typing in right now has the width of the subject bar....any ideas on this?

Mac Firebird users: How the FUCK do I turn off text smoothing? I fucking hate it and can't find anything under prefences to turn it off. IE, in the other hand, has it clearly under "Interface Extras" (enable Quartz text smoothing).

If there is no way to turn it off, Firebird is going to the trash bin quick.

Kaes, yes you can...that was the reason for me to be so uninterested in this thread at first..all the good shit for mac story...however, theres a PC firebird version (the link is in this thread somewhere) its only 6mb's and it also automatically imports your fav's from IE...you wont regret this, Setting homepage with tabs for other sites aswell is sweet.

on a sidenote, the only thats missing from firebird is the right click>Save target as..option...any ideas?

it seems like it would be in the "fonts and colors" options

someone else mentioned that the "reply" box is all thin now, i'm getting that too, i would fix it if i knew how

i noticed it's called firefox now

edit: mine looks more like the first screen shot, which leads me to beleive it's a mac thing

It IS a Mac thing, it's called Quartz Text Smoothing, and it generally looks good for fonts above a certain size... but smaller than that it just looks blurry.

Like I mentioned, Explorer has an option to turn it off, Firebird doesn't seem to have one, not even the "fonts & colors" option. I'm downloading the Firefox update, hopefully the issue has been addressed.

Everything comes with IE on it...IE does what it's designed to do, explore the internet, and I have never had problems with IE...so why would I even bother trying something else?

The cool factor?

Hmmm...

Replies welcome...

I would suggest using an alternative because there are crackers now who can change the address in the address bar AND the task bar to look like your at a legitimate... let's say paypal site. When in actuallity you are on some crackers server.

Besides it's made by microsoft. Holy moley. Though I find myself having to use IE sometimes cause I can't get some apps to work right without it. Damn software propriety crap.

Mozilla is good. It is still susceptible to this attack but it drops clues when it happens.

I hear opera is pretty good too but I ain't tried it yet.

Yeah firebird is very, very nice but it's still kinda buggy.... I think they've been giving it out with maximum pc lately.

I was using My IE 2 for a while and that's got alot of nice features. I don't know if it's susceptible to that attack still or what though. It's just an enhanced version of IE.

-sorry mams I don't know about the text smoothing... I haven't used it enough to know.

I found a way around it... I set the minimum font size to one above what's specified in for this forum, and everything now looks awesome and smooth, not a blurry mess like what I posted. And yeah I'm getting used to it... the jaggies are starting to look severely undope now.
