Christmas crackdown on train graffiti

Wednesday, 20 Dec 2006 13:38

Police officers have today been embarking on a major blitz of graffiti artists working on the British transport network.

As part of a Christmas crackdown, codenamed Operation Silverback, officers from the British Transport police (BTP) have been out in force and have made 23 arrests so far.

In the north-west of England, an 18-year-old man was this morning arrested on suspicion of graffiti offences committed between March 2005 and August 2006 in the Manchester, Wigan, Buxton and Macclesfield areas.

Ten other arrests were made in Scotland, six in the Wales and western area, four in London and two in the north-east.

Police say that the festive period often sees a surge in graffiti attacks on public transport, with 31 recorded across the country on Christmas Day alone last year.

Between Christmas Eve and Boxing Day last year, 63 attacks were recorded in total – 43 more than on the equivalent days in November.

Graffiti is said to account for six per cent of all reported crime on Britain's railways.

"We are pleased with the way the operation is going so far," the BTP's Detective Superintendent Ashley Croft said.

"Graffiti is a serious crime and over 100 officers have been involved in this operation so far."

The BTP say that the arrest phase of the operation will be followed by visible and covert police patrols during the holiday season

graffiti can depress neighbourhoods...

i cant wait to see the tower block sized fucking prozac theyll have to describe, or maybe send it to a shrink to get it to discuss how its feeling

what fucks me off is that for a so called democratic tv channel, the discussion about graffiti was handled by two presenters who clearly didnt have any idea or indeed give a shit, and two so called critics who were clearly just brought in to fill the 5 minute slot with hot air and waffling.

also, fuck banksy, he used to be vaugely imaginative until the media latched on to him and I am sick of people immediately associating his stuff with proper graffiti. fucking art fags who brown nose him like he's some revolutionary underground artist - more like a guy with a good sense of humour who is playing the media for all he can get.

the thing that bites the most though, is that budget of 1bn annually for cleaning londons streets - id love to see the evidence that supports that figure. its just bollocks though, LU or londons councils could provide any figure to the media and it is taken at face value, never questioned.

that art critic comes accross as a bit of a nobend which is a shame as hid view of "art" is actually quite good. he hates all the poncey art world bullshit see his wiki here

but he is totally off the mark when it comes to graff. he is obvioulsy just a fake too..

the worst part is writers aint got a voice. so far its a one sided arguement, the government n media chattin shit about graffiti, they rarely show the general publics view of it and ive never seen them show someone backing up graff......

if u had no opinion on graffiti then watched these news reports about it you'd end up disliking it. its all a big play tryna get people on ther side.

think about it, when someones been raped and murdered u dont get bods on the bbc news discussing why rape and murder is wrong, because theres no point everyone knows its wrong all ready. but with bombin thers lots and lots of doubt that its realy so bad so they gotta get people on tv backing up the harsh penalties n the money spent on the war against graff.

we need a voice.

why do you think they show programs like this, why do you think they buff, and why do you think they waist all there bullshit money on cleaning it?

excuses, prevention and proof that they are doing it, cleaning up crime! literally,

coz its the easiest way of showing everyone that they are doing something against crime.

coz graffiti is the most visible.

and the most harmless, and no one will ever realise this but wat you gonna do

put banksy on the thrown of graffiti to VOICE?

the best way to voice your opinion is to go out an thrash more and show them that nothing will ever ever work. we know this so quit complaining/

...if you keep smart no one will ever take your photos and that all that matters these days.

..THE REAL PROOF
