I can asure you the term 'bumpkin' was in use a long time before DDS.

well, if the DDS definition of bumpkin, is not of/ from the city... then the mersey rail aint no bumpkin line. But anyway, i personally think bumpkin is abit of a shit word.. the dictionary defines bumpkin as:

 

1. An awkward, unsophisticated person; a yokel.

 

2. A short spar projecting from the deck of a ship, used to extend a sail or secure a block or stay.

 

3. not very intelligent or interested in culture
