Ativan (lorazepam) appreciation

Recommended Posts

and as per 12oz rules, this isnt about recreational use of it.

I get panic/anxiety attacks pretty regularly. just think of a total feeling of hopelessness and loss, with no justification or reasoning behind it. its just there. you get that "rollercoaster" feeling in your stomach and chest and every good thought you try to force into your mind gets turned bad, "nothing is going to go right."

i just take 2 or 3 .5 mg pills and 15 minutes later, the worry might still be there, but for the most part you feel a shitload better.

anyone else take these or other anti-anxiety mediacations? i lost all faith in ssri's and other anti-depressants after i took pretty much every type available and they only had negative effects on me. this is the only med i keep to "take as needed," and it works like a charm.

I dunnnnoooo. I get those feelings like that often but I resist going to a doctor. I guess I'm just stubborn and will be stuck with feeling shitty but it seems like everyone takes ant-depressants lately....making everyone zombied out.

Could the reason for this widespread depression be that there's *something* lacking in our present society?

Edit: I've been getting panic attacks since I was around 12.

Yeah, I'm bi-polar which makes for lot's of fun anxiety attacks. I went to the hospital one time for anxiety and ended up having a panic attack right in the lobby. They gave me some ativan and that mellowed me out right quick. Those pills work great but they're supposed to be addictive as all hell. I never have my doc prescribe me more than I need.

Prozac is fun and Zyprexa rocks.

Us depressed types get all the best pills

Go read the horror stories from people taking these daily for a year or more. I was on klonopin for about 9 months and never took more than the prescribed dose, but tapering still took 2-1/2 months and I still had joint pain and muscle spasms for another month after that.

I'm not insulting your prescription or attempting to damage your ego, just telling you the truth. Calm the hell down.

i am calm. sorry about the caps lock.

i take the ativan when i get a panic/anxiety attack, which is usually once every few weeks or so. i dont take them every day and probably wouldnt.

i take them so little that the nice mellow mood they put me in is nice, but every day like that would probably get old.

there are also plenty of people who have been taking valum for 20+ years, and had no real adverse effect. would the go through withdrawl if they stopped taking it? probably. but would a diabetic die if they stopped taking their insulin? probably.

klonopin is not a benzo, its an anti convulsent.

Startling

It sort of wierds me out when I think about how many people on this board are on psych medications, or are self-medicating heavily with alcohol or street drugs.

It makes me speculate as to whether or not graffiti has some connection psychologically with depression/ bipolar/ dysthymia and (from society's point of view) "anti-social" behavior.

About six months ago, my doctor had me try Paxil. I didn't like it. Then I had what I thought was a heart attack, and it turned out to be a combination of a killer-level case of indigestion and a panic attack. After spending the day in the ER and on a cardiac unit, doing stress tests, they told me "Nope, no heart attack---just panic." So they put me on Zoloft 50mg every morning for depression, Zocor 80mg to lower my cholesterol (it was like 236--now it's 166) and Protonix for indigestion.

Man, what a difference. I feel much better, much, much, much less irritable and stressed out. It's hard to believe that one little blue tablet could make such a difference. Depression sucks. If you feel shitty all the time, you might could benefit from an SSRI or three.

And there are plenty of coke addicts who can take it for a very long time and function normally, but that doesn't make the addictive nature any better. That warning was useless in this thread though since he said that he's only taking it when having attacks. You won't get withdrawls from doing that.

klonopin is not a benzo, its an anti convulsent.

Klonopin is clonazepam, a benzodiazepine. Almost all benzos also have anti-convulsant / anti-seizure properties.

From www.rxlist.com:

DESCRIPTION

Klonopin, a benzodiazepine, is available as scored tablets with a K-shaped perforation containing 0.5 mg, 1 mg or 2 mg clonazepam, and unscored tablets with a K-shaped perforation containing 1 mg or 2 mg of clonazepam. Each tablet also contains lactose, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose and corn starch, with the following colorants: 0.5 mg: FD&C yellow no. 6 lake; 1 mg: FD&C blue no. 1 lake and FD&C blue No. 2 lake.

Chemically, clonazepam is 5-(o-Chlorophenyl)-1,3-dihydro-7-nitro-2H-1,4-benzodiazepin-2-one. It is a light yellow crystalline powder. It has a molecular weight of 315.72. The molecular formula is C15H10ClN3O3.

Gnome Toys is correct

Klonopin is a serious benzodiazepine, similar to Xanax or Valium. The most addictive benzo that I know of is Xanax. We get kids from time-to-time on my unit who are seriously, life-threateningly addicted to handlebars. Abusing benzos is for idiots. They are addictive as a motherfucker. No thanks!

i was prescribed zoloft a hilwe back..I took them for about a week and then I quit.

I liked the fact that you could piss on my shoes right in front of me and I didn't care but as far as my comprehension went it was like being baked out of my mind all day long. I would be at work trying to make orders and I would have to have someone help me to make sure I wasn't fucking up because I couldn' think straight. Another bad part was if someone tried to explain something to me it was just in one ear and out the other The worst though was when I missed ONE dose..I wanted to kill myself for about 36 hours. I went into a HORRIBLE depression. I made one of my boys just watch me and keep me as "sedated" *wink wink nudge nudge* as possible until I felt better...after that 36 hour period of wanting to die it started to subside and I decide that I am not going to take those fuckers again....fuck antidepressants, all they did for mewas make me a retard with a death wish.

Zack Morris

I think everybody gets that shit once in a while. I'm not much for doctors though, just a couple big vicadins and a blunt works every time...
