man i wish you coulda seen the zit faced kid withthe tie dye t shirt telling me to stop rapping about serious shit.....what the fuck am i supposed to rap about? bitches and money? badges and monkeys? oh, your offended cause my lyrics come across with controversial view points on world politics and whats affecting the society welive in? my bad- ill make sure i keep it real and only battle rap with witty metaphors.

im tellin you though its all about the digital cable channell old school rap.

all the classics from the early mid 90s no commercials.

bahhfuggenhumbug.....i dont know what im doing responding to this but....

look dude....hip hop was created inthe New York Projects by poor people predominitly of African Decent.

Big L was an extremly skilled rapper from New York who was murdered by the streets he rapped about. so i dont know if your being sarcastic or what by stating you dont listen to hip you listen to big L

hip hop is a fucking label......

if you really look at the history of the culture you might see that the overall message from "hip hop" is having fun and creating somthing from nothing. providing for yourself and having a positive effect on those around you. So Brotha Lynch is an example of hip hop success just like Big L, skilled rappers that provide for the lifestyle they desire by doing what they love. To knit pick whats hip hop or not hip hop Especially when its an mc rapping over a beat is pretty stupid.

so i hope this clears things up, "hip hop" is about doing shit and creating and improving and action and progress. it doesnt matter if its rapping or marketing. its a mind set to succeed and improve while not biting.

if anything the true power of hip hop should be evidenced by the domination of Rap in the commercial music industry. Thats real hip hop. Beats and Flows are the biggest force in the music industry right now.

hip hop, in my view is merely an attitude and a mindset based on mastering skills to benefit you and being original in your creations. thats it. there aint no hip hop guide to whats politically correct and whats hip or whats not hip hop. fuck it, every time i hear a rap on anything commercial i know someone prolly similar to me culturally is making some money by rapping. thats tight. making money is good.

seeking, i agree with most of what you said until that shti about gangstarr....

that whole "keeping it real" "pure hip hop" shit is really lame and most of the time the people who are saying that shit are so cought up in the "realness" that they forget about weather or not it sounds good. gangstarr is on another level because they are inovators and they still sound good. also, MF doom and King Geedorah are just aobut the only underground im listening to lately, other than some older shit like coflow and pre 97 shit.

mc doodoo started with The Fantastic hooker monkeys in the mid 80's recording there first tracks alongside Krs1 and Scott la rock in kid playdough's house , they were the FIRST group to use the pioneering SP1200 EMU sampler . Ced produced half off FHM's 'Flanel shirts ' tracks .

In the mid eighties FHM dropped the seminal classic 'Critical Bowel Movement' , this album brought to the fore front , the vocal talents of a one mc doo doo born and raised in the boogie down Bronx . The album showcased the singles ' Ccow Tippin' (the only doo doo 12 i aint got ) 'Funky Chiken', 'Watch me now cause i got a set of new teef' , 'Travelling at the speed of a moped b/w 'Chorusline' (enter lop Dog) , 'grease Back' and 'Give the Drummer some beer' , Chuck D branded them 'KINGS of the Singles' . This album still sounds fresh today . 'Critical Bowel Movement ' gave rise to all the abstract groups we see today, without FHM there would be no Tribe , De la ,Wu etc (believe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Then FHM ended there association with Next Plateau and signed to a major......Mercury. The album they dropped was called 'Funk your bathroom Up' it had some great songs on there like 'Message from the Landlord' , 'Make it happen so we can watch oprah' , 'Blast from the past/ i just saw my aunt rose naked ' the album also gave birth to doo doo's obsession with porn 'Pornostar' . As with all doo doo and FHM product , it was definitely not marketed correctly , most companies don't and did not understand the 'fat and chunky' FHM sound . But the one song I believe just killed everything in my eyes for about 3-4years was the remix of 'Poopa Large' by the Beatminerz what a f##king track and video (horror core and aka's , were bitten from doo doo's concept on this video) .

FHM left mercury and joined Wild pitch and they produced another underground classic in 'The Four Horsemen Go on a Beer Run' , this album should have broken FHM into a now bigger hip hop audience . But again another label did not know how to handle the group . The album featured a whole host of banging tracks like: 'Checkin my Stool Sample' , 'Raise it up' , 'Two Brothers with crack' , 'Yo black get off my porch' , 'Don't be Scared negro' (one of doo doo's best verses ever, along with 2nd verse on Break North) ....'One two one two' (new repeat style) etc , basically the whole f##king album. The two video's for this album were nice , the video for 'Two Brothers with crack' had doo doo pouring a bowl of cereal whilst in a sidecar of a motorbike driving along free bassing .

Mc doo doo at this point of his career decided to go it solo . doo doo had a break for a couple of years , he came back with the ' jenny bites' Ep , with Godfather biff that was very well received by the hip hop public . This Ep set the scene for doo doo to bring out the album , many people associate with him........Mr papa smurf, this album was produced by Dan the 'Automechanic' , it sent doo doo into outerspace in both terms of the personna and recognition. .............more to follow when im less pissed up .

gangstarr is the most over rated group in the history of hip hop, with the exception of their protege's, group home.

premier is a dope producer, and guru is lucky to have a dope voice, because his lyrics are fucking attrocious. premier should go solo and leave dude the fuck on the curb. they're like the ultimate 'safe' group. everyone will always like them, and want to check for them, yet everyone also likes to pretend that they're some secret little group that only they and their boy listen to. 'yo i like that underground shit, you know, hiero and gangstarr.

blah.

gangstarr blows and hiero are so comicaly bad, that it hurts. hate me all you want, but i speak the truth.

you wanna talk about 'real' hip hop, lets talk about MOP. that shit is as real as it comes.

anyway, no, the type of shit im hating on, is the 'hip hop' everyone claims to love. gangstarr, mos def, ugly duckling (holy fuck does that guy suck), people under the stairs, mike ladd, ummmm, all that 'we love hip hop' shit. its fucking corny.

totally agree (except for puts, they got some nice beats). ugly duckling are a gang of fucktards who wish they were jurassic 5. mos def is an ugly prick who should quit trying to be the black bob dylan, or whateverthefuck he's trying to do. gangstarr.....the formula worked, but now it's tired. move on boys. you can't make the same album 18 times. lord knows 2pac tried. and pleeeeease....no more 'indy' compilation albums. i'll shoot myself if i see another one on the shelf. soundbombing 2 was the last good hip hop compilation.

ehh... thats pushing it, buddy. :p hiero is dope, but they have a lot of garbage out.. 3rd eye vision deserves all the respect its gotten if you ask me, it changed the way hiphop sounded.. and they're good live, they can make a show into a party.

but all in all, id say stuff like hiero and gangstarr is sort of parallel to stuff like nas.. when it first came out, it changed everything, but they sort of kept making the same type of shit, and the quality of it went downhill.

i dont think anything different and original is good, even if it sounds ok. to me its like... lots of people, can pull off the same old style, and anyone can pull off a lot of the nerd rap out there... like to me, anyone can rap like buck 65 or some one like that, but its hard to make something really fresh and hype for lack of better terms.. the type of songs that are real on-point and have energy, that you'd put in your set to rock a crowd, but are not the same old style. its a lot harder to make songs that are more intense and you can really get into the mood/feel/vibe of them, because you have to be able use your voice to the maximum volume and effect..

in my opinion, atmosphere did that, and aesop rock did that, and earlier on hiero and company flow did that to a degree. and atmos and aesop did that with more laid back less intense songs in their first albums..

like music for earthworms, when did that come out? almost back when hiero came out with third eye, no? that album (music for earthworms) seems so advanced to me for being aesops first album.. bad sumeritan and wake up call specifically.. no one had style like that, and for sure no one had lyrics like that.

i dunno, id agree theres a lot of wack, same-old same-old type of shit coming out, but i think some of the best hiphop yet is still being produced.

He's still around. He is on tour with the rest of the crew at the moment.

Has an album coming out, "Truck Driver". I think it's some older material, unreleased even. Dude looks like he's 40 years old.

I feel the same about Hiero. I bought Full Circle, it's alright. Still nothing like 3rd Eye. "You Never Knew" is the jam of that collective. Everyone knows the deal on "93 Til" and "No Need For Alarm". They've just evolved. They're getting paid, I don't think they could give a fuck less. Doin' what they like and having the fanbase they have.

Pep Love is just about the only one in Hiero who has the heat.

Encore will be releasing an album on the Hiero label soon...now he's nice.

Gangstarr has me faded. Please believe I'll take a listen every now and then, but it get's repetitive. By the sound of it, Premier isn't putting out the gully shit at the moment. Jay turned all his beats down that were submitted to him by Primo. The Ownerz was weak. Primo's latest hot beat was "Rock Stars" from Non Phix's debut. Mmmm..Non Phix. That's the fun shit.

About M.O.P.

They are going on tour soon. No trips to major cities, I suppose the Roc is just testing the waters, see what kind of response they get.

And this whole concsious/underground/mainstream/backpacker/blah hip hop shit is silly. All the labels and shit. Beats and rhymes. Should be two categories, dope and wack. Beats and rhymes.

Anyone into Little Brother?

They are going to be big.

They might not be on the same level as Rakim, Nas, or whoever. But got damn, they sure have fun and they make that dope, fun shit. One of the best live sets I've ever seen.

Hip hop has officially been shite for 7 or 8 years now, and for the few years before that it was only ever mediocre.

I'm sitting here trying to think of one new album from the last few years that I've bought that has emotionally moved me, and I can't think of a single one. The only music I buy/acquire these days is old music.

And for who ever mentioned British Hip-hop, well, it's never been anything more than a novelty.

Music that I'm enjoying at the moment is Nu School Breaks kind of stuff. Damn, I'm not even sure if that's what it's called; it's just something that comes out of the radio in my car occasionally, when I'm flicking through the pirates.

anybody heard 'jack cracker'? some white dude from wisconsin or something.

dude is sick. one of the dopest new 'emcees' ive heard in a long, long time. witty punchlines, intertwined lines...it flows nice as a whole, but when you really listen to duudes lyrics, he's killing it as well.

seek gives his approval.

there has been some good hip hop made in the last 8 years, you just gotta weed through alot of bullshit to find it. or you just gotta go buy everything jay z's done, cause dude is fucking sick.

honestly, people that dont like jay z.... i honestly think i might make that the cut off point, where i draw the line between people im cool with, and dudes i aint got time for.

the knows, and the know-nots.

I hear people say this all the time.

I kind of agree, but I also look back on every era of the past and I can pick out tons of shit I like from each year. So 5 or so years from now we might be looking back on what was dope in the early 2000s and complaining about whatever's current at the time.
