ubejinxed Posted October 8, 2003 Share Posted October 8, 2003 is a cool place even though i don't speak any of the language! just got back from a trip there. i must say Chinese people are super friendly. highlights, thought i'd share (just my personal experience, and i am by no means an authority) - chinese people do not hesitate to hock lugis anywhere anytime - they are super friendly and nice, and will just say random hellos when they notice you are not asian - they like to take pictures of blond girls even if they do not know them. my one friend is in over 20 photos across China. they were more interested in photos of her than the sights we were seeing. - if they do not know what a shot is and you explain it they give you free shots of whiskey for the rest of the evening(maybe just us) - they have bouncing dance floors and party hard on monday nights and most nights in the bigger cities - there are a lot of prostitutes that look normal - there are not many normal western style toilets, and there is not much free toilet paper - it is a crowded country, with some strange food - they have done some amazing things ok i'm sure there's more, but i need to get to work. and on the trip we went to these cities: Beijing Qufu Jin'an Shouzou Shanghai lots of fun. i took 8 rolls of film, just need to get them developed. ubejinxed Posted October 8, 2003 Author Share Posted October 8, 2003 the toilets flush. but there is a serious splatter factor and i can't imagine using one while drunk and the balance is not 100%. luckily our hotel rooms had normal toilets, and i was always packing Tp. the trains actually offered western toilets too in the sleeper cars, i thought those would be the worst, but Tianamen square toilets were by far the worst. the toilets also had a star rating system, given by the tourist authority. i'm listening to my new Chinese music right now!!!! cool. We were staying off the water in this huge hotel / conference center / mall and there was absolutely no real community. I'd have to venture into the city to find anything. Now the real interesting areas were the Arab and Indian zones, but everything seemed run down and poor compared to the Chinese zone.
