S@T@N
Their first cd (Mer de Noms) quickly became one of my favorite cds. Now, they've come out with another, the "Thirteenth Step." It's fucking wonderful... Maynard always seems to rise above and beyond. Anyway, get it.

26SidedCube
The music's good... names of the song are a little over-the-top/cliche... Noose, Weak and Powerless, and The Outsider seem a little too "I'm hurt and depraved"... I burn Bibles, too!
S@T@N
Maybe you should listen to the lyrics. And take some Kaopectate for that brown dribble you got runnin down your chin.
MrChupacabra
I haven't taken the time to listen to their new cd yet, but i enjoyed the old one. I do know my dad has been steady rocking it for the past couple weeks though.
S@T@N
Nice, chupa. Here: "So glad to see you well Overcome and completely silent now Without himself You cast your demons out And not to pull your halo down Around your neck and tug you off your cloud But I'm more than just curious How you're planning to go about Making your amends to the dead To the dead Recall the deeds as if They're all someone else's Atrocious stories Now you stand reborn before us all So glad to see you well And not to pull your halo down Around your neck and tug you to the ground But I'm more than just curious How you're planning to go about Making your amends to the dead To the dead With your halo slipping down Your halo slipping Your halo slipping down Your halo slipping down Your halo slipping down (repeated) Your halo slipping down to choke you now" This isn't a "hurt and depraved" anything. This is Maynard in his normal tone saying "fuck you" with some intelligence.

Big Bruno
I don't understand why, but I hated Mer de Noms. I love everything that Tool has done, but I just couldn't get into that album. But from what hear of the new one: felling it.

Spike
I hereby present Maynard with an award for being the first to use "boogieman" in a song and not making me laugh every time I hear it. Thirteenth Step is a great album, but the whole thing is let down by "Dissapear". Also The Nurse Who Loved me is about 100x better live. I don't get why they didn't bother with drums on some tracks. I found it made those songs sound a lot weaker than stuff like Pet. I'm even contemplating sampling the drum beat off The Noose and using it for some hip-hoppish thing. That's how impessed by it I am.
S@T@N
A lot of the times you find a song that isn't quite what you'd expect, I'm pretty sure that's exactly the point. They want to impress... but for the most part they don't want to conform to shitty 3 chord fluff, with the generic repetitive drum lines.

I didn't say Maynard wasn't intelligent... and I didn't say he's not a brilliant musician (I dunno how responsible he is for the arrangement, seems like Danny Carrey is responsible for most of the musical know-how). I'd rather another solid Tool album than two good Perfect Circle albums. Just my opinion. Eat up, chew well. Drink plenty of water.

I quoted lyrics from one of the songs you mentioned, and showed he wasn't talking about suicidal stupidity. So not vague. Toilet humor? Well I figured that you probably had a few working brain cells and could figure out that I was insinuating you had diarrhea of the mouth. Not toilet humor so much as figurative language. And stop referring to APC and Tool like they're the same, because (thank you Spike) other than Maynard there is no link whatsoever.

Damn... how ever did I miss that... And stop referring to APC and Tool like they're the same, because (thank you Spike) other than Maynard there is no link whatsoever. So... other than the main part of the band, there's no link whatsoever... gotcha. Relax, cupcake... never once did I talk shit on 'em. I offered my opinion... and it wasn't short-sighted or ignorant so chill on the whole establishing dominance thing. They're make good music with a couple flaws... I think the same could be said about almost any band. Capish?
