books being typed onto the net?

From time to time I get into a book-reading stage. I always wonder if there were sites out there where people typed out the words to books, or scanned the pages, and uploaded them to websites - since Im too poor/cheap to buy them.

Yeah it sounds extreme but Ive found a few sites where people have sat and typed up entire movie scripts.

Anyone know of such a thing? And Im talking modern books..I dont want to read Hamlet or some shit.

There are a couple of sites but I don't remember the name that sell online books meaning in a digital format. If you have them some people can "share" them via aimster or morpheus. Eveytime I type in Hemingway or Kerouac I get nothing most people just share music and porn, no books. But some of those companies install encrypting software that stops the books from being copied of transferred. There was an article in the http://www.latimes.com about some Russian hacker that designed a program to overide the copyright software. Needless to say the FBI nabbed that guy. But people don't actually type the books themselves.

Hamlet is the shit!

But anyway,no offence, this is kinda stupid.

The reason that you're not into the reading book stage more often is probably because you dont buy books yourself.I supose you rent movies...right?

I am not trying to be an asshole but its that simple.

Since you're going to army i have a book to recomend its "the beach" by alex garland, penguin books.

_ain't nobody's busininess if you do: the absurdity of consensual crimes in our free country_ by peter mcwilliams. and hey, sting says it's brilliant so you know that means it's a really really really good book.

the greatest book i have ever read is "on the road" by jack kerouac goddamn that guy was great, i would reccommend any of his books to someone who wants to read some great writing

If you've got a copy of Carracho (I think it works with hotline too) you can download some .PDF books from:

194.236.7.24:6700

he's got Nitzsche, Orwell, King, Lovecraft, Bradbury, and even the fucking art of war by Sun Tzu.

my original post probably did sound stupid. but with all the warez people promoting 'freedom of information', through mp3s, warez, etc. I thought for sure books would be available for free somehow on the net.

nah, paper dosent require a power outlet to read, and so is vastly superior

On The Road by kerouac is cool. I just read it a while back. I decided to get a book of poetry by Allen Ginsberg since he was Kerouac's homie. He got some wierd shit in there. Ginsberg was gay and he has poems about boys being naked and anal sex with dudes. I was like WTF. He has a lot of poetry talking shit about war,oil companies etc. The gay anal sex shit just kinda surprised me. Have you read any other Kerouac books. I want to read Satori In Paris or Big Sur.

no doubt. but finding someone on the internet with too much time on their hands isnt that hard. also, people type entire movie scripts, tv show scripts (I remember I saw a simpsons site with that), music lyrics, everything. I dont see why they couldnt do books as well.
