RumPuncher
So I'm sure everyone has seen adds for them, but does anyone own any gear and want to comment on the clothes? mission statement: We are not about "made in USA". We are about American values. We believe in the American dream and want to do more for our customers and employees. We are pro-workers rights— whether in Los Angeles or anywhere in the world. We manufacture in the United States not because we are crazy flag fanatics but because it is the most vibrant T-shirt market in the world and therefore the most efficient place to manufacture our T-shirts. Our downtown Los Angeles factory, where we make 100% of our garments, is a true design lab where creative ideas, efficient manufacturing techniques and concepts for designing and selling T-shirts are developed and put to the test. A global divide exists between the haves and have-nots and too often the apparel industry has participated in the suppression of the poor. The challenge for companies, like American Apparel, is to establish new ways of doing business that are efficient and profitable without exploiting workers. As American Apparel's equity and strength grow, we promise to continually improve our product as well as the lives of our workers. Innovation and social responsibility - This is the new American Dream. but enough with the social commentary... an on to the girls! I dont know how they do it, but they find such hot 'non-model-models'. http://www.americanapparel.net/styles_preview/4305/image/4305_8904.jpg'>http://www.americanapparel.net/styles_preview/4305/image/4305_sil_3.jpg'> http://www.americanapparel.net/styles_preview/M304/image/m304_739.jpg'>http://www.americanapparel.net/styles_preview/4377/image/4377_rb.jpg'> so what's the scoop on this company ? Dirty_habiT
I'll give them a thumbs up for finding the hot girls, sometimes that's not the easiest thing to do.... but then again, the hot girls just "fall in your lap" sometimes too. And I'd agree, I'm all about some American made clothing that's put out by a company that's keen to keeping American's working. Good job.

Guest
^ the business ethics of the Gap and AA are totally different. Most Gap stuff is made in China or Bangledesh whereas AA is made in LA by everyday americans. and AA isn't really marketed to teens. How many teens really care about employment issues and global labour? Ok a few of them do... but they aren't wearing perky little tittie tops. speaking of perky... http://www.americanapparel.net/styles_preview/7319/image/7319_white_1.jpg'> http://www.americanapparel.net/styles_preview/8301/image/hot_short_1.jpg'> ^ 'plug' it in! Spike
But the question is, other than the models, WOULD YOU ROCK THE T-SHIRTS? I'm not a big fan of really close fitting stuff. Maybe it's cuz I haven't got a six-pack.
nomadawhat
seen the ads, the factory and now they are selling them at venice beach, which is more accesible than mail order. i would buy them if i need more shirts (they do make regular t-shirts), i wish they make some other type shits like polo;s or shorts. i know my pops ordered some after i told him about it...he's all about fair labor. wonder what he thought of them. they make dog shirts too! oh and headbands... uhhh! and coffin crave...wtf are you talking about?? nomadawhat
From http://www.organicconsumers.org/clothes/leaders.cfm Fair Made with Some Organic Cotton and Other Eco-friendly Fibers: American Apparel 747 Warehouse St. Los Angeles CA. 90021 213-488-0226 http:// www.americanapparel.net info@americanapparel.net American Apparel, a pioneer in sweatshop free clothing made in the USA, is the largest garment factory in the US with nearly 1000 employees working at one location. Garment workers make above $10/hour on average, while experienced workers can top $15/hour. The company offers excellent benefits unheard of in the apparel industry. Everyone has access to free massages, English and Spanish classes, immigration services, and a mobile health clinic, which visits once a week. Furthermore, health care and dental insurance is provided for all employees and their children. The company also is creating a paid vacation and on-site day care program. On the environmental front, American Apparel has partnered with Environmental Textiles, to recycle all of its cutting and fiber scraps. That amounts to over thirty-thousand pounds a week of cotton cuttings that would otherwise be dumped in landfills. They are currently in the process of developing their first organic line of clothing and aim to become 100% pesticide free in the near future. the_gooch
american apparel has some cool shit for girls, and their shit is good quality. the guys shit i haven't checked out, since they don't have much of a selection. i think their stuff is mainly sold as blanks for clothing companies to run stuff on (this is why i use them). and the girls that model for them are dope! BAMBOOZLED
Being that it is a business, and a business's soul objective is to make money, I think this is just a clever ploy to attract customers. They feed you a strong paragraph on ethics and social awareness so you feel like your doing a justice to all of mankind but purchasing their product. I mean think about it; If your selling scented toilet paper to save the whales, all the sudden the demographic buying toilet paper buys YOUR stuff because they feel better about doing it. Then you've got them hooked. They feel obligated to buy your paper because if they switch back to their old brand it hurts those whales that need their support. Soon they're throwing down for that 12 pack they can't afford because 'normal paper if for sell outs.' IT'S DIABOLICAL JOHNNY!!
