Graf Documentary Casting Call

Greetings to all Tucson area writers. I am sure some of you have caught word around town about a local filmmaker who is soon to begin production on a documentary video regarding Tucson graffiti. Well the rumors are true, and I am he who is going to do it.

The Art of Vandalism is a project that intends to document the ins and outs of Graffiti art and culture. It is a project that seeks not only to depict pieces and bombing footage, but also to gain further insight into the meaning of such activities through interviews with both writers and thier opponents as well (think Style Wars for a new mellenium).

The project will be carried out in stages that are to begin shortly and last indefinently (starting in Tucson, there are intentions to make it a national project). The first stage is to produce a short (under 15 minutes) documentary concerned with the issue of Graffiti perception; where some see it as art, and others as crime. The production of this short is to span the next six weeks, and has the potential to screen at the Univeristy of Arizona Media Arts Film Festival in May.

I am looking for writers in Tucson who are interested in participating to come forth and speak up about thier expression!! (already there are some on board). Again, I will be interviewing both writers and thier opponents (i.e. GAPIT, Tucson Police, etc), so now is the time to be heard.

I am most intersted in those who are willing to do interviews and appear on video doing their thing, both legal production and bombing.

Those interested are encouraged to email me at ArtofVandalism@hotmail.com

Let me know who you are, what you think, and how I can get hold of you. Feel free to ask questions as well.

I will be organzing a meeting within two weeks time (perhaps at All City) to meet with anyone interested to discuss things further.

HIT ME UP!

Peace

No offense taken

For the record, I agree and respect the fact that graffiti is for writers. However, there are many others in the community who are interested and effected by its application as a viable art form, and they may benefit from a fresh perspective. Indeed there have been books and films already on the subject, but I never knew anyone who ever saw anything wrong about the further advancement of a culture via multimedia (I doubt anyone could possibly come to dis Style Wars in any way).

Be it known that I myself am not "the media" so much as I am an aspiring artist (video being my chosen expressionistic tool).

As I said, there are already many prominent writers in the area who are already willing to contribute (writers whom I am sure you know and respect Scenic). And I continue to encourage those who are interested to email me (invitation still open to all, including you Scenic).

This is not a matter of exploitation. And those who know me (i.e. some of Tucson's best) realize this.

So please, although I appreciate and greatly respect anyones opinion, let's keep the beef and death threats to a minimum. Let's try to move together in a positive and peaceful direction if possible.

Much Respect.

Thanks again.

Just the facts

First of all Ultrakill, I do not know who I am talking to. I have never seen any writer named Ultrakill up anywhere in Tucson. Secondly, if you think that writers like Freak and Sofre (GTB) and Jogso (A2M) are toys, then that is your opinion, although I think that there are many writers in Tucson that would beg to differ. Thirdly, I have heard of F2 and respect their work. In fact, I recently met Soke and he expressed interest in participating in the project. Fourth, I do have prior experience in what I am doing, so there is no one to blame. And lastly, I will not be "bowing out", but rather moving forward in a manner that I am sure will prove successful. If you are as interested in participating as some of your crew members are, hit up my email. artofvandalism@hotmail.com.

Again, much respect.

Thank you.

Let's begin then!

No problem ya'll for being skeptical, I would be too if I saw such an anonymous post (thought I would be remembered right away). Anyways, as everyone who reads this can see, I am down for graf and not in this for exploitation. As such, I invite anyone intereted once again to email me at ArtofVandalism@hotmail.com

If we come together as a community of artists and share our skills I think we can make a very well done documentary that will shed some light on the Tucson scene. Which is what I plan to do initially, make a film about Tucson and its graf movement (which I personally think includes Freak, Sofre, and Jogs since they have been living and bombing here for a while... But we can discuss that at a later time).

Anyways, hit up the email and like I posted earlier I will try to organize a meeting within two weeks time where we can all discuss the project in person.

Mad respect to Ultrakill, Soke, F2, Scenic Route, and anyone else down to rep Tucson graf to the fullest.

Peace

It's important to start at the begining

Yo Eskimo,

Tucson is where I reside, and that is why I am starting filming here. Besides, there are a number of dope artists here that are very much so worth documenting.

Eventually I intend to make this a nation wide project, and when I do I will certainly respect the fact that graffiti knows no boundaris... I'll get footage in Wiclox if there is any worth getting!

Also, I want everyone to know that I have recieved some emails that question the motives for the project. Good question. For me, it is simply a matter of applying my skills as a filmmaker to a medium that inspires me on a daily basis (graf). For anyone who wants to particpate your motivation should be that you are best to tell your own stories as writers in the scene.

Again, I think that the project can lend to a greater sense of artistic community that in end will benefit all.

I have gotten some good leads via your emails. Some think that I really should talk to writers such as Strike and Lex since they've been around for a minute.

If anyone knows how I can get a hold of them, or if anyone has any other suggestions, don't hesitate.

Keep the emails coming! ArtofVandalism@hotmail.com

Peace
