Posted August 21, 200321 yr turning to the vast knoledge pool of the collective 12oz mindset.... So a friend is coming into town and I need to rent a car. Here's the issue... most places have an age requirement of 25 years but I'm a few months shy of that. Will places still rent to me? I'm going to call up some of the local dealers tonight and figure out the terms, or should I maybe get dressed in my finest work attire and just go cold-call the shops. I've never rented a car on my name before and I'd like to hear any stories tips etc. or if anyone in my area wants to just let me borrow their ride.... (convertible prefered) Drop me a line.
August 21, 200321 yr ;) they ususally just charge a premium or extra insurance for underage. i got a benz and an extra civic that i'm still trying to sell.
August 21, 200321 yr I have found a few places that will rent one to you even if you are not 25 yet. The only down fall to it is that they charge you more for the rental.
August 21, 200321 yr i woulda thought you could rent cars and moose in canada at like 14 or something. i'm pretty sure you can rent cars under 25 but you might have to pay some higher insurance.
August 21, 200321 yr I figured it would just work out to an increased insurance premium. no biggie. but I'm hoping someone in here knows a few tricks to get the dealer to give me a break. last time I was involved with the renting of a car, it was with a lingerie model so all the dealers were bending over backwards to help us out. I however... am no lingerie model.
August 21, 200321 yr Yeah, you might have to pay a bit more....but other than that,I don't think you should have a problem.

August 21, 200321 yr My car got totalled back before I was 25. The insurance company gave me a rental allowance for a car, but nobody would rent me a car. My parents ended up letting me borrow their car, while they got to drive my bling bling rental. I'm still bitter about that. 25 seems a little excessive age wise as far as renting a car goes. At least you can rent one now...those fuckers wouldn't budge when I needed one.
August 21, 200321 yr so it's more money eh guys ? I hear you SA on how they can screw over people based on age even when it's out of context. Luckily my record up here is clean. No parking tickets, no speeding... nothing. I've got a few outstandings in texas and new mexico... but forget that. I know one of the local dealers rents this... http://images.automotive.com/reviews/2002/chrysler/02sebringconv.jpg'>
August 21, 200321 yr I hear the Sebrings are actually nice. too bad you can't rent one of these: http://www.axecess.com.au/cyberpaper/cars/porschemain.jpg'> or perhaps one of these: http://www.carsfromitaly.com/ferrari/250californiaspyder.jpg'> and yeah...my record is clean as a whistle. $250 a pop to get out of my normal (15 over) tickets. I've been pulled over a lot.
August 21, 200321 yr at a local dealer.... http://www.drivenimage.com/car_photos/JAGUARXK.largePic2003627191154.JPG'> ^275 a day http://www.drivenimage.com/car_photos/PORSCHE.largePic200362817552.JPG'> ^500 a day. I'd prefer the jag anyways.

August 28, 200321 yr So here's the poop scoop. I'm renting a midsized car (Sebring, Taurus or Malibu) and because I'm 24 and one year too young, they will charge me and extra $10 per day + a $500 deductable on my credit card. and they said they'd rent to anyone with a full drivers licence and a credit card in their name. Wild... I would have been renting cars at 17 if I knew it was that easy! oh wait... no cd player, no deal!
August 28, 200321 yr renting cars cost a shitload $500!!! converted to my currency prolly be a $1000 i always thought that renting a sports car be fun, lap the coast line and pretend its yours and see what girls come to talk to you.
August 28, 200321 yr ^ not the ones you want to talk to you. If the first impression they get of you is an expensive lie, then just imagine how you'll have to act to keep them around. It's not worth it. I'm getting 3 days in a decent car for 170. And that's like a twenty dollar bill in the states right guys?
August 28, 200321 yr yeah i know i wouldnt try and get numbers etc would just play along for a day then go home and be normal :ballcap:

August 28, 200321 yr yo kilo! you don't have to be 25 at every place.. depends on the company. some are 25, some are 23, and some are 21. we've had to rent cars for roadtrips for the last 3 years, you're all good to go.
August 28, 200321 yr thanks K. I've heard that the 25 limit is a bit of an urban myth set up by worried parents and travel agents. The guy told me they'll rent to anyone with the paperwork as long as they have the cash. I'm sure there's enough places that will rent to you without the paperwork if the price is right.
August 28, 200321 yr http://europeforvisitors.com/europe/images/car_insurance.jpg'> I want this one! Hop in ladies!
