melancholy songs that somehow actually make me feel warm and good...

Joy Division : Atmosphere...could bring a tear to a glass eye

Verve : History...Richard Ashcroft is shite now he's happy

Spacemen 3 : So Hot (Wash Away All Of My Tears)...brilliant

Primal Scream : Damaged...a song about comedowns, excellent

Al Green : Tired Of Being Alone...the right Reverend has it

uplifting stuff...

Marlenna Shaw : California Soul...impossible not to dance to, while singing every word

Toots and The Maytals : Red Gold and Green...or any Toots song actually

Electric Prunes : Holy Are You...i could almost cry it's so fucking good

Terry Callier & Beth Orton : Dolphins/Lean On Me....both utterly beautiful songs

Snuff : I Think We're Alone Now...Tiffany given the punk treatment, how can that not be amazing?

jump up and down/dance like a lunatic stuff...

Vitalic : La Rock 01...100% banging

Ministry : Thieves

Nation Of Ulysses : Spectra Sonic Sound

A.R.E. Weapons : Headbanger Face

Iggy & The Stooges : I Wanna Be Your Dog

miscellaneous...

DJ Shadow : In/Flux...this song probably fucked my speakers, what a bassline

Black Flag : Wasted...perfect last song before heading out to get wasted

Kruder & Dorfmeister : almost anything of theirs is ultimate chilling music

and Happy Hardcore makes me fucking angry too, it's a crime against music, and the people who are into it are invariably complete fucking morons

I wish I knew more about Pita, or even track names... but all the songs on that particular album (called "Get Out") are untitled. The one I'm talking about is the third track on it, you might be able to find an audio clip of it somewhere... I first heard it when BROWNer posted said clip of it on one of those "What Are You Listening To Right Now?" threads, and I was like "Holy shit, what is that!". He hooked it up proper soon afterwards.

The first few listens can be challenging, since it's almost 12 minutes long, has no lyrics, is composed entirely of a single looped melody, and the sound is downright abrasive. However the melody it's based on is absolutely gorgeous... you get about a minute and a half to enjoy it in its purity, getting all inspired and uplifted, and then suddenly without warning Pita destroys the crap out of it for the next remaining 10 minutes. He takes the melody, without changing any notes, on a journey of texture and distortion that just hurts... but since the melody and rhythm still remain the same, there is no denying that there is something unnervingly beautiful about the harsh noise being grinded against your eardrums. This contradiction creates all the conflicting emotions, you both love/hate what you hear, it makes you feel uplifted/depressed, you can imagine it playing on the soundtrack of a movie during the sunset shot after the good guy wins the girl/you can imagine it playing on the soundtrack of a movie during the apocalypse shot when a bomb incinerates thousands, you feel like slowly killing someone and then kissing the corpse. All the while the textures of the noise slowly shift around, and you're amazed at just how rich noise can be.

Anyways, I'm getting carried away.. I just think it's an amazing piece of work, and just makes me wonder at just how many gems does BROWNer have that are as good as and even better than this one. Maybe soon I'll try to host the clip for you, cause I'm betting it's really tough to find on the p2p's. Beer,

A lot of songs to me that show inner-emmotion are those that are reflectant to a piece of my life's past. They create a sense of nostalgia, so to speak.
