Bloc131
i have a russian super8 camera (shown below). i was wondering if smart or kilo could lay it all out for me. i would be forever thankful. i really like super8 film and the way it looks, but there's nobody i know to ask to get the basics down. <3 ps - i have a very basic knowledge of photography so i'm not totally retarded - just a little bit. http://olexcamera.freeyellow.com/image7.jpg'> question one - i have a listing on the side (kaap/c, 32, 24, 18, 12, 9). i assume this is for speed/framerate? higher number = slower motion + more film used, etc.. --- question two - i have another notch that has: -2, 0, +2. what is this for exactly? side note: i think perhaps it may be offset, as the numbers don't meet the red dot to set it. i can't move it to the +2 position and can move it before the -2 position where there are no numbers. --- question three - there is an automatic/manual switch on here. if it was in manual mode, what settings do i mess with to adjust? Guest
question one - I'd say that's frame rate sinly because of the numbers. 24fps (frames per second) is the current film standars and it seems like it can shoot at different integers of that. That's called a 'motor drive' which is good because you can 'ramp' speeds while shooting. Just remember it will all play back at 24fps (or 30 if you transfer to video) so 9 is slow motion and 32 is fast --- question two - i Aperature. Light levels. +2 is for darker situation where you need to open the Iris 2 'stops'. -2 is when it's bright. --- question three - Automatic mode probably does an auto light level so it will expose correctly based on the light around you. That's your best bet so you dont get washed out footage or black footage. so my recomendations... SHOOT A CAMERA TEST. put the thing on a tripod and shoot any good still life (or moving for frame rate tests) then take good notes and try the camera in all the settings. there you go.
