SKATEBOARDING --- and art. Who knew the two were meant for each other? And who imagined the art would ever cop attention outside the skating scene?

For several years the phrase "skate culture" has been popping up in more forward-thinking art magazine, like Flash Art.

One of the first exhiitsin main stream, nonprofit gallery of art made by and about skateboarders opens Friday at the Contemporary Art center of Virginia in Virginia Beach.

"Skate Culture: The Art of Skateboarding" presents the images, the music, the videos, the writings. And at the center of it is a woman who is not even a member of Generation Y.

The article goes on to say that many of the artists will be there for the opening as well as on Saturday. This exhibit opens Friday july 18th and runs through october 12th.

10am-5pm Tuesday-Friday

10am-4pm Saturday

noon-4pm Sunday

$7 for adults

$5 for students, seniors, and active duty millitary.

kids under 3 are free

So if you are in the area go check out the exhibit and support the cause.
