These dudes in Hollywood should bring back the puppets and the cheesy fx, Star Wars is a great example of crappy yet briliant props and special effects... I don't think any amount of SFX could save that. My money's on Spielberg, as much of an asshole we may think he is... dude makes fine movies, and this is a movie that in my opinion needs more than a budget in the "tens of millions". I'm sure Speilberg will fuck things up by having a cute kid with his cute dog, and maybe it'll open and close with an old dude standing over a cemetery to bookend the film for idiots. The aliens will be killed off by a trail of Reeses Pieces and little alien boys wil have identity crises when they fall in love with human MILFs. It'll all be covered in GAP logos and Coca-Cola ads and everyone will eat it up and call it the best film they've ever seen. But I'm still going to wind up spending money on it, and on some level be entertained. What I'm really looking forward to is the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy movie coming out in May. It was fucking incredible, and Welles was a genius. Every aspect of how the program was layed out was purposeful. Each step made sure that the audience just sunk itself deeper and deeper...and he actually had no real concept of how powerful it was until he got outside (escorted by police for his safety) and saw the Times Square news ticker that said something like "radio program incites panic" I'm gonna be kinda sad to see these if they suck. Quoted post I saw it last night and if you ask me Spielberg is a genius. I loved the War of the Worlds original radio broadcast by Orson Wells so if you ask me it's naturally a great sci fi story. This movie doesn't do anything except further visually accommodate that broadcast. With any epic movie you tend to see some corny lines but thankfully it's void of that and holds true to being a dark and disturbing scary as shit story. Excellent!
