INTRODUCING SECURIWARS NEW RECRUIT ..A THUG WITH 666 ETCHED ON HIS BACK Ferris hires heavy to run east coast

Russell Findlay Exclusive

THIS is the latest recruit to the security firm wars - a heavyweight skinhead with 666 tattooed on his back.

Heavily-scarred George Kerr, 43, is the newest addition to a nationwide security operation masterminded by gangster Paul Ferris.

Kerr uses his fearsome reputation in Dundee to secure contracts for his paymasters at Frontline Security, which is based in Glasgow.

Now police fear bloody turf wars between rival security gangs could spread to the rest of the country from the west of Scotland.

There has been a spate of fire attacks, beatings and threats at sites in Glasgow, Renfrewshire and Lanarkshire. Frontline Security guards are now in place on sites in Dundee and Edinburgh.

One security source said: "Ferris is moving across the central belt and up the east coast." Gangsters have muscled in on the lucrative security trade and many firms are fronts for drug dealing and money laundering.

Frontline has joined forces with Guardion Security, which is run by fugitive ex-cop Paul Johnston.

Now gun runner Ferris has signed up his old pal Kerr to act as his man on the ground in Tayside.

The career criminal, who has always avoided public exposure, has 666 - the mark of the beast - proudly etched on the back of his neck.

Kerr operated now-defunct security firm Global Detection and Surveillance Agency in Dundee. He works on a freelance basis, taking a cut of any income from sites he wins for Frontline.

In recent weeks, he has secured at least four building sites for Frontline in the city. The security source said: "This sends out the signal that Frontline consider Dundee their turf.

"As well as having Ferris and his Glasgow mob in the background, they've got Kerr as a visible presence."

Kerr, who recently acted as a `minder' for disgraced former solicitor Paul Anderson, lives near Kingennie, on the outskirts of the city.

Anderson, 41, was exposed by the Sunday Mail last year after running up £1million in debts.

Scores of innocent investors lost their life savings as franchisees of Anderson's failed UK-wide mortgage firm. Kerr's rented property features a shop dummy with a blonde wig handcuffed to the railings which also displays a Neighbourhood Watch sign.

The mannequin, dressed in police helmet, army jacket and knee-length leather boots, was hanging by the neck from a telegraph pole until police told Kerr to move it.

On the door of Kerr's garage is a Frontline Security sign.

A Dundee underworld source said: "Kerr's been in there for a couple of years after driving out the previous occupants.

"Like all these so-called gangsters, Kerr is just a bully and a thug.

"He's always making trips to Glasgow and, frequently, criminals from there visit him in Dundee.

"This latest development with the security is no surprise. Kerr was an amateur boxer but spent most of his time on his backside. He's been in and out of court but, frequently, someone else takes the rap for him."

Kerr survived after being shot three times 10 years ago after a row over drugs. He was targeted in the Cutty Sark pub by one of the Satan's Slaves biker gang.

One source said: "The guy used an old revolver from the Second World War and the rounds were damp - which probably saved Kerr's life.

"He was still seriously injured but the other guy also left in a stretcher, as he was attacked after firing the shots."

Frontline is fronted by Billy Elliott, 36, and Pamela Petrie, 35.

In a recent BBC interview, Elliott denied being a frontman for Ferris, saying the gangster, recently released after being jailed for gun-running, was only a `consultant' to the firm.

Before being jailed in 1998, Ferris claimed to be a consultant for Premier Security, fronted by Harry Young, who is now in prison. In reality, it was Ferris's firm and it crashed twice, owing a fortune in unpaid taxes.

In recent months, Ferris has claimed Premier was a £3million a year success story with an "international clientele".

Scotland's security industry is a battleground for some of the country's most hated criminals.

The rogues' gallery includes Ferris, Bobby Dempster, Lewis Rodden, Paul Johston, Frank Carberry, Paul McGovern and Jason Dickson.

Over the past five years, the Sunday Mail has exposed tit-for-tat shootings, fire attacks, beatings and threats.

But police chiefs and politicians seemed reluctant to tackle Scotland's shameful security wars.

Many firms employ drug-dealing heavies and use the cloak of `security' as a front for organised crime.

But greedy crooks don't pay taxes or the minimum wage and many of the guards are drug addicts and criminals. As predicted by the Sunday Mail, the return of Ferris has sparked the latest wave of gang warfare.

An outbreak of blazes at half-built homes throughout the west of Scotland was described as "unprecedented" by fire chiefs and caused millions of pounds of damage.

The torchings led to Strathclyde Police launching its first high-profile operation against criminal firms in a bid to control the lawlessness.

Now it's the daunting task of Security Industry Authority boss Molly Meacher to put the gangsters out of business.

In March, the Scottish Executive simply extended the powers of the government agency from England and Wales. Meacher has vowed to put firms with "criminal intent" out of business by refusing them a licence.

But licensing won't be complete until 2005 and, for Ferris & Co, there's a lot of money to be made in the meantime.

A more worrying development is the fact some criminals now see ordinary homeowners as ripe for their services.

One such protection racket has already been attempted and housing associations have even paid public cash for gangster firms to patrol the streets.
