Think of this as Teflon for your walls. A new paint, called Lotusan, has been developed by Sto that is self-cleaning. Intended for mineral, cement, and concrete surfaces, the paint mimics the water-beading effects on lotuses, causing rain to slide down the walls, thus reducing chances for micro-organism growth (The picture shown is the before/after effects of the paint). Sto is planning on commercializing the product as a spray-on for textiles, or some kind of special sheeting. Very cool idea... soon we'll never need to clean EVER. Ah how sweet that day would be.

Edit*

Please note that teflon is a nonstick material, and not used for bulletproof vests as 50 would have you believe (thats kevlar).

This headband MP3 player—straight from the Japanese company Evergreen—has a 96x64 pixel three color built-in EL display housed on the left hand side of the earphone. The EG-HPM also has a built-in mic for voice recording in either MP3 or WMA format, and a rechargable battery with 15 hours of juice. It comes in 256 MB and 512 MB, for around $130—but you're more likely to see this at a Star Wars convention than in an American store anytime soon.

robot_suit.jpg

Sho Hasegawa, a student at the Tokyo University of Science, is making a demo of the Muscle Suit, designed to support the muscle movements of the elderly or disabled. By controlling air compression, it can help bend and stretch arms, and twist elbows both inward and outward.

The lack of a full metal frame for this pneumatic robot suit makes it great deal lighter. In addition, the pneumatic system does not have any heavy electric actuators or hydraulics either. The way it works is that pairs of "muscle" tubes inflate, the suit bulges, which pulls in the attachment points —- This force shortens the artificial muscle and voila, muscle power.

pivote.gif

For drivers who who have problems parking, Nissan has prototyped an egg-shaped car whose body pivots 360 degrees so that its rear end becomes the front.

The three-seater electric car, called Pivo, has steering, wheels and other parts controlled electronically by wireless, or electronic signals, not mechanical links between the cabin and the vehicle's chassis.

Pivo highlights other technologies, including a system that allows the driver to control devices inside the car simply by raising his or her fingers off the steering wheel.

That's done through a camera embedded in the steering wheel that senses heat. Lifting one finger might turn on the radio. Two fingers might set car navigation equipment.
