-Rage-
Cheer up 12oz. Here are some happy things from the Depression era.. ...oh wait. By the People, For the People: Posters from the WPA 1936-1943 <span style='color:black'>"The collection consists of 908 boldly colored and graphically diverse original posters produced from 1936 to 1943 as part of Franklin Delano Roosevelt's New Deal. Of the 2,000 WPA (Works Progress Administration) posters known to exist, the Library of Congress's collection of more than 900 is the largest. These striking silkscreen, lithograph, and woodcut posters were designed to publicize health and safety programs; cultural programs including art exhibitions, theatrical, and musical performances; travel and tourism; educational programs; and community activities in seventeen states and the District of Columbia. The posters were made possible by one of the first U.S. Government programs to support the arts and were added to the Library's holdings in the 1940s."</span> http://memory.loc.gov/service/pnp/cph/3b40000/3b48000/3b48700/3b48745r.jpg'> http://memory.loc.gov/service/pnp/cph/3g00000/3g06000/3g06100/3g06179r.jpg'> http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/fedtp/images/ftcole05.jpg'> http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/fedtp/images/ftcole04.jpg'> http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/fedtp/images/ftcole01.jpg'> http://memory.loc.gov/service/pnp/cph/3f00000/3f05000/3f05300/3f05397r.jpg'> http://memory.loc.gov/service/pnp/cph/3f00000/3f05000/3f05300/3f05350r.jpg'> http://memory.loc.gov/service/pnp/cph/3b40000/3b49000/3b49400/3b49492r.jpg'> http://memory.loc.gov/service/pnp/cph/3f00000/3f05000/3f05200/3f05299r.jpg'> http://memory.loc.gov/service/pnp/cph/3f00000/3f05000/3f05600/3f05647r.jpg'> http://memory.loc.gov/service/pnp/cph/3b50000/3b51000/3b51400/3b51495r.jpg'>

Kyuzo
It's like it's not bad enough, so they go 'oh, we better personify the boat.. now it'll look REALLY bad' and they expet people to see that and go 'Holy shit, those things are scary, i'll now learn from this poster.' It's just that i hate propaganda, because most of the time things arn't displayed as how they ARE... unless it's used as a metaphore, and i guess that's different. even so, the japanese were fucking stupid with their subs, they used them to ferry supplies and small groups of troops for the most part... Poop Man Bob
Back when the federal government used to support the arts; not cover them with drapes ^^^ I agree with ese. While there are endless examples of racism, I don't see it there. Great find, Rage.
Poop Man Bob
Originally posted by Kyuzo It's just that i hate propaganda, because most of the time things arn't displayed as how they ARE That's exactly why it's called propaganda and not journalism. Originally posted by Kyuzo It's like it's not bad enough, so they go 'oh, we better personify the boat.. now it'll look REALLY bad' and they expet people to see that and go 'Holy shit, those things are scary, i'll now learn from this poster.' Of course the fucking subs were scary, regardless of whether it's personified as a shark. Like you implied, it's being used as a metaphor - the sub is preying upon the large, slow-moving ship .. just as a shark would do to a large, slow-moving fish. There's simply not racism here. You can argue and argue, but there's not.
