Make the Choice for me...

Recommended Posts

One of my final projects for a summer class I am taking requires me to analyize the text and subtext of song lyrics. I am having trouble chosing which of the follow songs to use.

Faith No More-Epic

Rolling Stones- Paint it Black

Social Distortion- Ball and Chain

Sick of it all- step down

The clash- clampdown

Eric B & Rakim- Paid in Full

Billy Bragg- The have and have nots

Operation Ivy_ sound system

Or Bad Brains- FVk

help me make the decision.

here is the lyrics to Clampdown if anybody cares

The Clash - Clampdown

Buy this album!

From the album "Clash On Broadway"

(Strummer/Jones)

What are we gonna do now?

Taking off his turban, they said, is this man a Jew?

'Cause they're working for the clampdown

They put up a poster saying we earn more than you!

When we're working for the clampdown

We will teach our twisted speech

To the young believers

We will train our blue-eyed men

To be young believers

The judge said five to ten-but I say double that again

I'm not working for the clampdown

No man born with a living soul

Can be working for the clampdown

Kick over the wall 'cause government's to fall

How can you refuse it?

Let fury have the hour, anger can be power

D'you know that you can use it?

The voices in your head are calling

Stop wasting your time, there's nothing coming

Only a fool would think someone could save you

The men at the factory are old and cunning

You don't owe nothing, so boy get runnin'

It's the best years of your life they want to steal

You grow up and you calm down

You're working for the clampdown

You start wearing the blue and brown

You're working for the clampdown

So you got someone to boss around

It makes you feel big now

You drift until you brutalize

You made your first kill now

In these days of evil presidentes

Working for the clampdown

But lately one or two has fully paid their due

For working for the clampdown

But ha! Gitalong! Gitalong!

And I've given away no secrets

Who's barmy now?

He took the words right out my mouth and walked a mile in my shoes

I've paid so many dues, I feel used and abused

And I'm.... so confused

I'm the inspiration, for a WHOLE generation

And unless you got 10 SSsssticky Fingers

Its straight immitation

A figment, of your imagination

But but but but wait it gets worse!!

I'm not watered down so I'm dyin of thirst

Comin thru wit a scam, a foolproof plan

I'm Not a Gentleman

(Print the Lyrics)

(Willie D)

Ladies first, who the fuck made up that shit?

9 times outta 10 it was a bitch

I'm comin' at cha like this

Cause your pussy ain't no more important than my dick miss

I'm not your motherfuckin' doll

You won't see me runnin' to ya at your every beckon call

Bitches act like they handicapped

Want me to open doors, pull out chairs and all that

I'm the motherfuckin' gangster of love

So how you gonna run me like I'm some kind of scrub

Think your pussy made of gold, well it's not

You couldn't get a dime for it at the pawn shop

I won't pack your bags at the store

Now will I take you to a play or a musical, whore

And break my neck to be extra polite

I'll take your motherfuckin' ass to a chicken fight

And if you get cold, you gonna sneeze

Cause I ain't givin' you my coat, so I can freeze

People say my manners are minimum

I'm from the ghetto hoe

I'm not a motherfuckin' gentleman

I'm not a gentleman

I'm not a motherfuckin' gentleman

I told you that in the first rap

Hell no I won't remove my cap

When I go to ya moms crib for my grill

t-shirt, sneakers and jeans is how I feel

(???????????????????????????????)

Cause I'll be eatin' with my hands not the proper utensils

I say yeah, naw, not ma'am

I was raised like that, so that's the way I am

I don't give a damn if ain't got a seat

My feet hurt bitch, you ain't no better than me

Stand your ass up, wait your time

I don't give a fuck if your 9 or 99

Drop something if you want to freak

And I won't leap to pick it up like a geek

In a dash or flash, goddamn, I'll pass

I'ma let you bend over so I can see dat ass

I might laugh, giggle, or grin

You could say Willie D is out to win

People say my manners are minimum

I'm from the ghetto hoe

I'm not a motherfuckin' gentleman

I'm not a gentleman

I'm not a motherfuckin' gentleman

Or a nice guy or goodfella

I'll straight up tell her

Bitch, to suck my dick

Fuck that beatin' around the bush shit

When I go to see a hoe

I don't knock at the door, I blow

And if we go to a restaurant I don't let her pick it

Cause she'll try to choose the one most expensive

You don't like it when I walk in the front zone

Well slowpoke ass hoe, bring your ass on

But every woman ain't a motherfuckin' lady

I treat a hoe like a hoe and a bitch like a bitch

And a lady like a lady but I don't sip Dom Perrigion

And listen to Luther or Kenny G, its Geto Boys and Jubiliee

You can't catch me holdin' hands in the shopping mall

If I'm wearin' (?????)

You know I'm gettin' them draw's

People call me a lot of things love

But they'll never accuse me of

Being a motherfuckin' gentleman

I'm not a gentleman

im not a gentleman , by the geto boys

^I cant deny my love for soia. matter of fact I listened to just look around about 40 times within the last few days. and the lyrics to step down are also dope. But I need to make the paper a few pages long, and I found mass info on the politics behind the text in clampdown, and the subtext I can talk about the music industry.

^who knows, it is on the list for one of my favorite songs of all times. I would love to read the project when it is done. the hardcore history is so rich. proir to going on twelve oz today, I was reading the liner notes in side the cause for alarm album talking about the early part of the scene. I wish I was there. I got into the scene on the later side, around 92'

I suggest you do the intro to "Wu-Tang: 7th Chamber", for its simple yet powerful portrayal of the hip hop lifestyle.

Refer to this thread for the full transcript and some insightful analysis.
