I attempted to outline the three fan blades with a little flashlight, after i was done, i turned off the flashlight, went and flipped on the light on the fan for a second and turned it off, walked over and released the cable. The grain you're wanting is a property of the chemicals on film. On digital cameras, all you'll get is its shitty cousin, noise. Depending on your camera you'll either want to under or overexpose your night shots, and perhaps set the ISO really high. Most cameras have some sort of internal noise reduction though.
