casek bro

dont do it man

my ex went to one of those things ... and when she got out hardly anyone would hire her because they preffered people with actual bartneding experience or someone that doesn't know shit

most bars all have their own way of doing things anyhows ... they're train you themselves

all the drinks you learn how to make are pointless anyhows man, 90% of the time at a bar ... people are going to ask for a jack n coke ... vodka n cran ... or a beer

you hardly need to know ANY of those drinks

seriously man ... give me $750 and i can teach you more about bartending than they ever will !!!

&believe&

yeah, you should look into 'dive' bars.

some of them dont require any knowledge

about it, they will train you. Then, from there,

you can move it on up, like The Jeffersons!

yeah, dropping $750 on these fools seems outrageous but they have job placement and they've been around since '78 with no complaints to the better business bureau, etc...i researched it a little. i think i'm going to get in touch with some of their graduates.

ha ha OE...nah, i'm not down for the pyramid scheme...i've got one for ya, though..you can figure out the details, but it involves selling instructions (3 parter $5 each) on how to sell instructions...you'd need a p.o. box and some time spent writing the pitch, etc out....

your spending 750 for nothing....restaurant and bar managers laugh at that shit....like the guy a few posts before said, most people want a jack and coke or whatevers on tap...not some fruit flipping bottles who can blow fire and make the gayest drinks on earth....

unless your moving to south beach where no one has any taste....then you would probably be golden....

bottom line...you wasting your time and money...you would get farther with a job as a bar back....

  • 3 weeks later...

well, it's been a little while since i first posted this thread...i'm actually attending the professional bartending school, now. today was my second day. it's not too bad. very professional. yesterday we learned how to make martini's and the like, today it was tall drinks (tom collins, sex on the beach, etc)...i did fairly well on the test on martini's today, 98%...so, i missed some ingredients in the original manhattan drink...muttled cherries and bitters, heh, who needs 'em?

so, they have this job placement program after i get done with this school thing...they only work with professional bars, not too bad. i'm considering trying to get a job on a cruise ship for the summer. i'm sure that'll be worth my while. i definitely don't wanna work in some college club/bar...i'd much rather work in some nice establishment...maybe i can afford an old chevelle and bore out the engine...ha ha.

I was a bartender in the bay area. I never went to school for it, but I saw an ad and went in for an inerview and got hired without any experience. The owner said I looked smart and was probably a fast learner. So I started that night and was so scared but everyoone who came to the bar were really patient and cool. I got paid hourly plus tips which was not bad at all, but being a girl who closed the bar at night was not fun, got attatcked a couple of times and it really scared me. But I met a lot of interesting people and chalk it up as experience.

so, how were the tips? this one chick told me that she never made under $25 an hour bartending...she was a chick, though...i dunno. the school also told me that i'd make my funds back ($750) in a week or two...i still can't believe they charged me that much.

i think i'll try and get a job on a cruise ship for the summer. or maybe a casino...i dunno.
